Gameweek two saw defences on top in contrast to the frenzy of goals week one had to offer. Here we review Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) top performers.
GK – Hugo Lloris – Tottenham – 11pts
For the second week running Hugo Lloris has accumulated the highest points in FPL. The Tottenham captain was an integral part of their 1-0 win over Wolves on the weekend. The home side dominated the game but a clean sheet and an impressive six saves from Lloris gained him three bonus points and his side the win.

DEF – Reece James – Chelsea – 18pts
King of the gameweek, Reece James put in a game winning display as Chelsea won 2-0 at The Emirates. James set up the first goal for debutant Romelu Lukaku before firing the ball into the top corner for The Blues’ second of the game, add to that a controlling defensive performance resulting in a clean sheet, it was a great day at the office for the wingback.

DEF – Tyrone Mings – Aston Villa – 15pts
Tyrone Mings was back in the starting 11 and back amongst the points in FPL. The England defender kept a clean sheet accompanied by two assists in a game that saw Aston Villa breeze past Newcastle 2-0 at Villa Park. Mings was a top performer in FPL last season and could be once again if the continues to have a positive influence on the Villa backlibne.

DEF – Shane Duffy – Brighton & Hove Albion – 14pts
The forgotten man, Shane Duffy has returned to the Premier League in style after a disappointing loan spell in Scotland at Celtic last season. The Irishman opened the scoring with a sublime header from a corner and went on to keep a cleansheet as Brighton secured victory on their return to the Amex against Watford.

DEF – Aymeric Laporte – Manchester City – 14pts
Aymeric Laporte was expected by some to be leaving Manchester City this summer but didn’t let speculation impact his performance levels. His first goal at the Etihad Stadium despite being at the club since 2018. Manchester City were rampant winners this week against Norwich City, scoring five without reply.

DEF – Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool – 12pts
Alexander-Arnold is expected to be one of the top point earners with his price tag the highest of defenders in FPL. Two games and two cleansheets for Liverpool are good early signs for a defence that struggled last season, Trent’s technical ability and willingness to get forward also rewarding him with an assist in the win over Burnley at Anfield.

MID – Said Benrahma – West Ham United – 12pts
Once again West Ham midfielder Said Benrahma is proving his worth picking up an identical 12 points as he did in gameweek one. The Algerians relationship with Michail Antonio is earning the Hammers points in the Premier League and the duo FPL points. Benrahma was assisted by Antonio allowing him to calmly slot the ball into the net and setup Fornals with a great cross for United’s first goal of the match against Leicester City. If David Moyes keeps playing the creative midfielder centrally and allowing freedom with the ball, Benrahma should keep tallying up the points in future weeks.

MID – Mason Greenwood – Manchester United – 10pts
Mason Greenwood is proving to be a valuable member to FPL teams after scoring in back to back weeks. The youngster scored his 19th Premier League and at the age of 19 is amongst the greatest ever Premier League teenagers with only Robbie Fowler, Wayne Rooney and Michael scoring more. Greenwood is listed as a midfielder this season meaning greater points for goals, he played on the right of the front three at Southampton but we could even see him move to a central striker role once Jadon Sancho makes his way into the team. Greenwood is certainly a player to keep an eye on.

MID – Mateusz Klich – Leeds United – 9pts
Leeds United were involved in another goal fest this week as they drew 2-2 with Everton at Elland Road. Klich was on the scoresheet for Leeds and claimed a further three bonus points to see himself into the team of the week.

FWD – Michail Antonio – West Ham United – 16pts
Michail Antonio has three goals and two assists just after a couple of games into the Premier League season, the forward is on fine form and his brace against Leicester City confirmed him as the Hammers top goal scorer in the Premier League era. Crystal Palace and Southampton are Antonio’s next two opponents so he will be confident of adding to his tally further.

FWD – Gabriel Jesus – Manchester City – 11pts
It is unusual to see a forward in the team of the week without scoring a goal but Gabriel Jesus turned provider for his Manchester City teammates in their 5-0 win over Norwich City. Two assists including one for new £100m man Jack Grealish earned the Brazilian striker three bonus points seeing him into the team of the week.
