Top 3 Moments From The English Premier League Weekend

This weekend certainly did not disappoint in terms of action in the English Premier League, and we have picked our top three moments.

From late drama, to shock defeats, this weekend had it all and for once, VAR was not necessarily the main talking point from the fixtures.

We do it all again in the Premier League next weekend so head down to Bet9ja, where you can find more than 200 markets on every fixture to enhance the action.

Red Card: Newcastle United vs Liverpool.

On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool travelled to St James’s Park to face fourth placed Newcastle United and two quick fire goals within 17 minutes from the visitors meant that Eddie Howe’s side had an uphill battle for the remainder of the game.

However, matters went from bad to worse in the 22nd minute when Nick Pope got a red card for handling the ball a considerable distance outside of his penalty area.

Not only did this dismissal have an impact against Liverpool, but it also means that the English international will not be able to feature against Manchester United in the EFL Cup Final next weekend.

Late drama: Aston Villa vs Arsenal

On Saturday lunch time, Aston Villa hosted Arsenal in the Premier League and despite the home side taking the lead twice in the match, the Gunners ended up winning 4-2.

The game was tied at 2-2 as the fourth official signalled for added time, but the ball fell to Jorginho in the 93rd minute and he thundered a shot against the cross bar, which resulted in the ball falling onto ex-Gunner Emi Martinez and rolling into the back of the net.

Arsenal went into the fixture on the back of three games without a win, and the victory proved even more important, as title challengers Manchester City went on to drop points against Nottingham Forest later on that day.

Surprise victory: Chelsea vs Southampton

Although Chelsea went into this fixture without a win in their last four games in all competitions, with the money that was spent in January, they would have expected to beat bottom of the table Southampton at home.

However, a James Ward-Prowse free-kick in typical style was enough to secure all three points for the Saints, as Chelsea did not do enough to get anything from the match, leaving question marks over the future of Graham Potter.
