Victor Ikpeba on Nigeria Striker Victor Osimhen’s Next Move

With the summer transfer window rapidly approaching, many of the world’s best footballers have been touted with moves between big clubs both across Europe and towards the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia in particular has become a new destination and likely to elevate to the next level, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and now Karim Benzema, plying their trade in the country.

We caught up with Bet9ja Ambassador Victor Ikpeba, who spoke about the potential transfer merry-go-round in Europa, and the chances of Napoli and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen signing for a new club after his heroic performances in Serie A this season.

Osimhen’s Options

VI: It’s difficult to say what I’d do if I was in Victor Osimhen’s shoes. He can either choose to stay with the team that he’s been really successful with or try something new, like how Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years has gone from Manchester United to Real Madrid, then to Juventus and back to Manchester United.

It depends where he wants to go! I don’t think he wants to go to Manchester City and I’m not sure that Manchester United want him, will he want to go to Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur who aren’t involved in the UEFA Champions League next season? I’m not so sure.

This is a player who needs to be playing at the top level of European football. Bayern Munich are there, but I don’t think that they’re going to want to pay a lot of money for an African player. I could see him going to PSG as they’ll be able to afford the fee that Napoli will be commanding and he’d be a good fit there. I think he would fit in well at Real Madrid, but there’s been a lot of speculation that Harry Kane may be signing for them this summer. It might not be a bad idea for him to stay at Napoli for another season to see how things play out.

The Transfer Jigsaw Puzzle

VI: You see a lot of the time when one player moves, it often starts a domino effect of players moving to different clubs. Manchester United will be looking to spend a lot of money to catch up with Manchester City and stop their domination of the English Premier League, but it’s not always about spending a lot of money if you can find the right players for less.

Look at Chelsea – they spent a massive amount of money in the last two windows and it didn’t improve their results like they would have hoped because the players didn’t hit the ground running. The Premier League is a very challenging league and it often takes a few seasons for a player to show their true potential there
