Sofyan Amrabat has been heavily linked with a move to English Premier League giants Manchester United this summer.
The Moroccan midfielder had a superb World Cup campaign as he played a vital role in his country’s success, reaching the semi-final.
Amrabat has become a sought after midfielder after his impressive displays over the last 18 months and United have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Fiorentina player regarding a move.
We look at three reasons why Amrabat could be a great fit for the Red Devils.
Energy in midfield
Amrabat is a tenacious midfielder who is well-known for his energy and desire in midfield, which is something the United midfield lacked last term.
Casemiro certainly improved the United midfield last term, but Amrabat will be able to add legs that the Brazilian 31-year-old simply cannot offer.
Fred and Scott McTominay were the two midfielders for United that could add some energy last term, but they have been out of favour under Erik ten Hag so Amrabat could be the perfect replacement.
Fits the budget
There have been reports suggesting that United have a transfer budget of around £100m this summer, and they have already splashed £60m on Mason Mount.
Amrabat will reportedly cost the Manchester side £26m if they want to lure him to Old Trafford this summer, so he would certainly be an affordable option.
This would mean United would still have some of their initial transfer budget remaining, so if they were to offload some of the current crop of players they can use the left over funds to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.
Complement Mount
United have opted to fork out a big fee Mount this summer and Amrabat has the characteristics to complement the way the England international plays.
Mount can be utilised as either an attacking midfielder or as a ‘number 8’, so if ten Hag wishes to play him a bit further forward then the Moroccan can slot in just behind and play alongside Casemiro.
Likewise, with Amrabat also having the capabilities of playing in a more advanced role, this means that ten Hag has the option of playing the English midfielder slightly deeper if he feels like this would suit the system better.
