Top 3 Granit Xhaka Moments For Arsenal

After seven years at the club, Granit Xhaka has left Arsenal.

Xhaka joins Bayern Leverkusen for €25m (£21.4m) which is a deal that works out for all parties, as he will join the Bundesliga outfit with bundles of valuable experience to pass on to the next generation.

The move suits Arsenal, with Declan Rice on the verge of joining for a British record fee in excess of £100m.

The Swiss midfielder certainly had an up and down time with the Gunners but he will be hoping that the highs outweigh the lows in the memory banks of the Arsenal faithful.

Here we look at the top three moments for Xhaka in an Arsenal shirt.

Thunderbolt free-kick against Crystal Palace, 2018

Arsenal found themselves a goal down against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park before Xhaka stepped up and whipped the ball into the far corner from 25 yards out.

The Swiss midfielder has always had a true strike in his locker and he displayed his excellent technique which will go down as an iconic goal in the history books.

The game finished in a 2-2 stalemate, but that strike from Xhaka ended up being one of the goals of the season and was one of his best moments in an Arsenal shirt.

Rocket against Manchester United, 2022

The Gunners faithful will have great memories of Arsenal’s 3-1 victory against Manchester United in 2022 and Xhaka’s strike was the highlight of the game.

United had got themselves back in the game via Cristiano Ronaldo, but Xhaka sealed the victory after he shifted the ball onto his left and fired home from just outside the penalty area past a scrambling David de Gea.

This moment was another iconic one from Xhaka, after his superb strike was topped off with a knee slide in front of the doting fans.

Vital in the 2022/23 campaign

Arsenal had a superb campaign last term as they pushed Manchester City to the end in the English Premier League and Xhaka was one of the standout performers.

There was rumours throughout the season that the 30-year-old would be leaving the Emirates at the end of the season but it was certainly his best term in an Arsenal shirt.

Xhaka featured 37 times in the Premier League, being used in a position slightly further up the pitch, where he features for Switzerland, having less defensive responsibilities which paid dividends for Mikel Arteta.
