Would Paulo Dybala Be A Good Fit For Chelsea?

There have strong rumours circulating that Paulo Dybala could move to Chelsea this summer.

The likes of Thiago Silva and Enzo Fernandez have been trying to persuade the Roma forward to swap Rome for London.

The Argentine star had a successful campaign last term under Jose Mourinho, scoring 18 goals in all competitions and helped Roma reach the UEFA Europa League final.

Mauricio Pochettino has already opted to bring in Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Diego Moreira this summer, but the new Chelsea boss might be keen to add some more talent such as Dybala to his squad before the transfer window shuts.

We explore why he could be a great signing on the cheap for the Blues.

Experience

Dybala would be a great addition to Pochettino’s somewhat youthful squad, having played more than 300 games in Serie A, mainly for Juventus and then a further 53 appearances in the luxurious UEFA Champions League.

With this experience at the top level, he will be able to pass on valuable knowledge to young attacking players such as Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk who failed to fully hit the ground running last term in the English Premier League.

Proven goalscorer

Dybala has proven in the past that he can score goals wherever he has played – he found the back of the net 18 times in all competitions last term for Roma.

Kai Havertz was the Blues top scorer in the league last term with seven goals, so Pochettino will need to find another source of goals ahead of next season after the German has left the club to join Arsenal.

Raheem Sterling failed to produce the goods last term with just three goals to his name in the EPL, so Pochettino might be keen to get Dybala in the door in hope that he can add another attacking threat to his side.

Cheaper option

With the big spending spree that Chelsea have had over the past year, they are in serious danger of breaking FFP regulations, so to get new players in the door they will need to look for cheaper options.

Dybala has a release clause in his current contract with Roma stating that he can leave the club to join a club outside of Italy for £10m.

Christopher Nkunku has already joined the club this summer for £52million, so they Todd Boehly will be looking for cheaper options such as Dybala to freshen up the squad.
