Chelsea have had a busy summer transfer window with plenty of players leaving and joining the club.
The Blues have made five additions to their squad this summer, but with 14 players departing, Mauricio Pochettino might be keen to seen more players come in through the door ahead of the new season.
After finishing a lowly 12th last season, the Blues are probably still a few players short of competing for a top four spot in the English Premier League once again.
Here’s where Chelsea still need to strengthen.
CENTRE-BACK
Chelsea have seen Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta leave the club this summer, so they are looking rather light in the central defender position.
However, Levi Colwill impressed greatly whilst on loan last term with Brighton & Hove Albion and will be expected to return and slot right into the starting XI after Chelsea have recently tied him down to a new long term deal.
Pochettino has famously opted to play three at the back in the past, making it likely that incoming defender Axel Disasi will have a big part to play after Chelsea agreed a fee just under £40m with Monaco, but that another centre-back could join him.
MIDFIELD
With Chelsea’s summer clear out, they have seen Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic depart so are seriously struggling for numbers in the central midfield role.
Despite opting to recently bring in youngster Lesley Ugochukwu, Pochettino might be keen to bolster his midfield options further as he will look to improve on an extremely poor campaign last term for the Blues.
Moises Caicedo is still on the radar of Chelsea this summer despite having two bids rejected, but it is unknown as to whether Todd Boehly will be willing to meet Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price of £100m.
GOALKEEPER
Edouard Mendy has left the club this summer to join Al-Ahli, so Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to be number one if they do not opt bring in a new shot stopper.
David Raya is a man on the radar of Chelsea this summer, as his Spanish counterpart Kepa has certainly had his critics since signing for the club for a whopping £72m. However, it has since emerged that Chelsea will face competition for Raya from rivals Arsenal.
