3 Biggest Winners From The EPL Weekend

With the third matchday of the 2023/24 English Premier League behind us, we took a closer look at some of the sides who will be delighted with their weekend victories.

There has already been plenty of upsets in the opening trio of games, with some sides proving the doubters wrong by picking up some valuable points early in the campaign. Here are the biggest winners of matchday three.

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-3 West Ham United

The Hammers travelled down south on Saturday to face an in-form Brighton side and against all odds, picked up three points in a 3-1 victory.

The Seagulls had picked up six points from six in their opening two fixtures and were the highest scorers in the league after scoring eight goals, so the Hammers might have taken a point before the match.

David Moyes’ side found themselves three goals ahead in the 63rd minute of the game, and held on to pick up all three points, despite having just just 19% possession throughout.

Everton 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves had a nightmare opening two weekends of the Premier League season after they picked up zero points from a possible six and it was worrying signs for Gary O’Neil.

Goodison Park is never the easiest place for an away side to go to, and the game was certainly not the best spectacle but an 87th minute winner from Sasa Kalajdzic was enough to earn the three points.

The first two games were tough ones for Gary O’Neil’s side against Manchester United and Brighton, but the three points on the road against Everton will certainly give them confidence moving forward.

Manchester United 3-2 Nottingham Forest

Manchester United were heavily criticised after their performances in the opening two games of the 2023/24 season, but they fought hard to pick up three points against Forest in their third fixture.

United found themselves two goals down after just four minutes played and it was always going to be an uphill battle from there, but they showed great resilience to come back and win the game.

Although it has been a poor start from United performance wise, Erik ten Hag has still managed to pick up six points from his first three games, so he will be hoping that his side can now kick on and start performing how they did last term.
