Promotion-winning manager Steve Cooper has been sacked by Nottingham Forest, after a poor run of form.
After their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last Friday, Forest have sunk to 17th in the English Premier League, losing five of their past six matches.
Cooper, who had been under pressure before at the two-time European champions, led Forest to safety in 16th position last season in what was their first season in the Premier League for 23 years.
The under-17 World Cup winning manager with England, previously guided the Tricky Trees to a memorable promotion in 2021/22, taking over in September with the club bottom of the EFL Championship. However, he lost just seven times in the league that season as Forest beat Huddersfield 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley.
He was heavily backed that summer by owner Evangelos Marinakis spending more than £150m on more than 30 players over two transfer windows, including £17m on Super Eagle star Taiwo Awoniyi. More big money was spent this season and a return of one win in 13 has ultimately led to an under-achieving start and costs Cooper his job.
Former Wolves and Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is set to replace Cooper. He spent a successful four years in charge at Wolves before moving to Tottenham, which ended after less than four months. Last month, he was sacked by Saudi Arabia champions Al-Ittihad.
A manager with Premier League pedigree, Santo will be tasked with arresting some worrying form, which leaves Forest just five points above the relegation zone after 17 matches.
