Nigeria came into AFCON as outside favourites to go on and win the tournament, but this quickly changed thanks to early exits from some of the top sides. The Ivory Coast had an abysmal group stage, winning their first game before falling to defeat against Nigeria and culminating in a 4-0 humiliation to Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria, in comparison, have had to go to extra time on just a single occasion with this coming in their penalty victory against South Africa in their previous game. This could leave Nigeria’s players less fatigued than their opponents if the game is to go all the way, but the backing of the home crowd is sure to help the Ivory Coast players push all the way.
