Best EPL and FA Cup Goals Of The Weekend

This weekend’s English Premier League fixtures were slightly disrupted by the FA Cup quarter-finals also taking place, leaving us with a mix of league and cup games to watch.

Both competitions held four games each and these fixtures provided plenty of drama, tension and goals throughout.

With so many goals being scored across these fixtures, we’re taking a look at the best goals scored from this weekend’s Premier League and FA Cup matches:

Haji Wright – 16 March 2024

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 – 3 Coventry City

A highly entertaining game between Wolves and Coventry City saw the hosts go 2-1 up heading into the 90th minute before an equaliser from Ellis Simms made it look as though the game was destined for extra-time.

However, Coventry gained the ball from a throw-in in the final minutes of the game which was given to Callum O’Hare who crossed the ball low into the box. Simms was able to get onto the end of the cross and lay it off to his strike partner Haji Wright, who first-time curled the ball into the far corner leaving Jose Sa with no chance and sending Coventry City into the FA Cup semi-finals for just the second time in their history.

Stephy Mavididi – 17 March 2024

Chelsea 4 – 2 Leicester City

Chelsea had gone into half-time 2-0 up with Leicester City providing little threat to the hosts’ goal, that was until Axel Disasi scored an awful own-goal that got Leicester back into the game.

Stephy Mavididi then equalised just 11 minutes later with a fantastic goal after a brilliant piece of skill. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall swept the ball out to the winger, who turned and ran towards Malo Gusto who retreated into his own area.

Mavididi squared up to the full-back and created space with a series of step-overs that sent Gusto the wrong way. The winger quickly cut right and had a yard of space to shoot, which he did so with a curled effort past Robert Sanchez and into the top-right corner of the net to bring his side level.

Carney Chukwuemeka – 17 March 2024

Chelsea 4 – 2 Leicester City

Carney Chukwuemeka’s goal was yet another added-time winner in this week’s FA Cup games, as the youngster finished off a brilliant move to put Chelsea 3-2 up in the dying moments of the game.

Conor Gallagher started with the ball and drove his pass into Nicolas Jackson just wide of the penalty area, Jackson quickly gave the ball to Chukwuemeka who found himself in a bit of space inside Leicester City’s box. The midfielder knocked the ball into Cole Palmer who expertly back-heeled between two defenders and back into the ball of the onrushing Chukwuemeka, who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net to put his side ahead.

Noni Madueke – 17 March 2024

Chelsea 4 – 2 Leicester City

A game filled with fantastic goals was finished off with an absolute beauty from Noni Madueke in the 98th minute to put the game beyond any sort of doubt as Chelsea went on to win 4-2.

The winger was given the ball just inside Leicester’s half by Gusto, with the pass being just behind Madueke who had to stop his run to grab control of the ball. Madueke quickly manoeuvred the ball into his path as he ran past one defender, before skipping past another with a fantastic bit of skill.

The winger then produced an outrageous curled effort from just outside the box that dipped and curved into Jakub Stolarczyk’s top right corner, putting the game to bed in style.

Amad Diallo – 17 March 2024

Manchester United 4 – 3 Liverpool

After a weekend of fantastic games, plenty of goals and huge late drama, the FA Cup saved arguably it’s greatest for the final game.

Manchester United and Liverpool had battled for 120 minutes with the game swinging back-and-forth in favour of the hosts and then the visitors, but it looked as though the game was heading to penalties with the clock having just a few seconds left and the game stuck at 3-3.

However, Liverpool had a late corner that they threw everyone bar one player into the box for, but this plan massively misfired for the Reds. The corner was cleared to Harvey Elliot on the edge of the box, who tried to control it but was quickly tackled by Amad Diallo, with the ball landing in front of the now onrushing Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho charged forward from his own half up towards the Liverpool penalty area with Diallo providing support and Conor Bradley attempting to protect his goal. Garnacho laid the ball off to Diallo just outside the box, but it looked as though the pass was poor and Bradley was going to defend the situation.

Diallo had other ideas though as he dropped a shoulder and went left, creating half a yard to shoot back across Caoimhin Kelleher’s goal. The ball came off the inside of the right post and bounced into the net, sending Old Trafford into a frenzy as they pulled off a historic 4-3 win in the 121st minute to finish off one of the FA Cup’s classic matches.
