The most recent round of English Premier League fixtures provided some of the most dramatic and action-packed games we have seen so far this year. With the stakes of each game becoming increasingly more important as we near the end of the season, every team is fighting tooth and nail for each point, leaving each game going right down to the wire.
We spoke to Bet9ja Ambassador Victor Ikpeba for his thoughts on the action and picked out our top talking points following the EPL Weekend:

The Premier League title race remains firmly in the balance
It can be very easy to look at a set of fixtures from one weekend and change your mind on the title favourites – I still maintain that Manchester City are my title favourites after this weekend, despite Arsenal sitting top on goal difference and looking like the form team in the league.
Liverpool dropped points against a poor Manchester United side but will look at their remaining fixtures as a good chance to keep pace with Arsenal and City.
Manchester City will keep on winning – you cannot doubt that. I am actually very interested to see how the UEFA Champions League fixtures on their side of the draw go – if they draw Arsenal in the next round then the winner of that tie will be full of confidence going into the end of the season.
Liverpool drop points
Liverpool sat at the top of the Premier League table prior to their game with Manchester United, and despite a dominant performance, they were unable to take all three points as they had to come from behind and settle with a 2-2 draw.
They had 28 shots compared to Manchester United’s nine, but Old Trafford was always going to be a difficult place to visit, and this was certainly the case in this one. United turned the game on its head with goals in the 50th and 67th minute to put them in the lead, but Liverpool were able to salvage a point thanks to a very cheap penalty which was dispatched by Mohamed Salah in the 84th minute.
Luton Town take a huge victory
Luton finally managed to achieve their first victory since a 4-0 battering of Brighton at the end of January as they came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 thanks to a 90th-minute winner from captain Carlton Morris.
That victory has taken Luton onto level points with Nottingham Forest, only remaining in the relegation zone due to their inferior goal difference. With their performances being more than worthy of a single win in recent weeks, this eventual victory could help spur them on to completing a miraculous survival in the top flight.
Calvert-Lewin pulls Everton away from the bottom three
Dominic Calvert-Lewin hadn’t scored since a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in October until last week when he dispatched a penalty to secure a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United. This seems to have opened the tap for the striker, who scored once again in a massive 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Burnley at the weekend.
The victory takes Everton to four points above Luton Town in 18th place and opens up a healthy 10-point gap over Burnley. This marks just their second win in 2024, and it could prove to be vital in their attempt to keep their long-standing status in the Premier League.
Sheffield United take an important point
Sheffield United may well have been bottom of the league for a majority of the season, but their recent results are slowly helping them move closer to the fight to stay in the division.
A fantastic performance against Chelsea this weekend saw them take 11 shots to Chelsea’s six, leaving them rather unfortunate to only leave with a single point. However, they will be happy in the manner they took this result as Oliver McBurnie equalised in the 93rd minute to make it 2-2.
This has become Sheffield United’s third draw in four games and while they are still nine points from safety, these results may give them the confidence boost they need as they attempt to pull off one of the best survival runs in Premier League history.
