Victor Okoh Boniface has become extremely hot property ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window having had an excellent season with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
An impressive season at Union St. Gilloise last year saw Boniface touted around Europe as clubs debated whether to take the chance on the Nigerian striker. Bayer Leverkusen made the jump and signed Boniface for just £17.5 million, a fee that now looks like an extremely good bargain following the season he has just produced.
Despite an injury-hit season where the striker has only appeared 27 times Boniface has contributed to a fantastic 27 goals, equalling a goal contribution every game. His 11 Bundesliga goals leave him as joint-top scorer for his side in the competition, while his five in the Europa League also saw him leading his side’s scoring.

Bayer Leverkusen’s phenomenal achievement this season, already crowned Bundesliga champions while currently still unbeaten across every competition they are competing in, has garnered interest in Xabi Alonso’s squad from all across Europe.
One of the main players to attract this interest is Boniface, and we’re going to be looking at the most likely destinations for the Nigerian this summer:
AC MILAN
Reports in Italy are suggesting that AC Milan are set to be in the market for a striker this summer, with their two main options being Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna or Boniface. Competition for the Bologna striker is expected to be high and a reported price tag of above £50 million may be seen as off-putting, suggesting that they may instead make a move for the Nigerian.
AC Milan currently sit second in the Serie A and will be hoping to improve upon this next season. With current top scorer being 37-year-old Olivier Giroud, a younger striker such as Boniface would be extremely welcome in helping this push towards the top of the table.
CHELSEA
As usual, whenever a big potential transfer rumour is floating around Chelsea find themselves in the mix for their signature. This is no different in the case of Viktor Boniface, with the London club reportedly looking to already improve upon their current striker Nicolas Jackson, who they only signed last summer.
Jackson has only scored 13 in 36 games for his side, and has earned a reputation in English football for squandering big chances. Boniface would be the perfect replacement for this, a physical striker with a much greater knack for getting on the scoresheet.
With Chelsea so happy to spend big every transfer window, we would keep our eyes on this one potentially happening.
ARSENAL
Another side looking for a top striker to join their ranks as they look to push towards a league title is Arsenal.
Despite still being in the title race this season, many are suggesting that the difference between winning the Premier League and losing out to Manchester City could be their lack of a true goalscorer.
Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s top scorer this season, scoring 18 across all competitions and 14 in the Premier League. Saka remains as the only player to so far hit double digits in the league, while five of his 14 have come from the penalty spot, leaving them without a player in double digits from open play.
Someone like Boniface could, therefore, be a fantastic addition to Mikel Arteta’s side, with the striker more than capable of linking up the play in the build-up while he has also shown his clinical prowess in front of goal this season.
BAYER LEVERKUSEN
The final option is to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, which we think is the most likely reality for the Nigerian.
Xabi Alonso has reportedly stated that he will be remaining at the club past this season, turning down potential roles at Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Another of Leverkusen’s highly sought-after stars is Florian Wirtz, and sporting director Simon Rolfes has stated that the youngster will also be remaining at the club for next season.
With these two core pieces of this fantastic league-winning side set to stay at the club, we can’t imagine many of these players will want to leave a project that has been so successful so far this season.
This also goes for Boniface, who we believe is likely to stay at the club for at least another season as this Bayer Leverkusen fairy-tale story looks far from over.
