Manchester United currently sit eighth place in the English Premier League, and things are not looking good in what is one of their worst ever league performances since the league began in 1992.
Summer signings such as Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat have failed to hit the ground running since their arrival at the start of the campaign, and it is an important upcoming transfer window for the Red Devils.
Here are five players Man Utd must sign in the summer to become top four contenders once again:
Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan
United have scored just 52 goals this season, which is the worst out of the teams inside the top 11 of the league standings, which means it is clear that they are in need of a goal scorer.
Martinez would be the perfect fit, as he is has netted a whopping 24 times in 32 appearances this season for Inter, so signing him would certainly boost their chances of a top four finish.
Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace
The United back line has come under great scrutiny in recent times and due to injury, Erik ten Hag has had to play Casemiro and Johnny Evans as the central defenders – they are in desperate need of cover in that area.
The Palace defender has been sidelined for large parts of this season due to injury, but when he has been fit his performances have been superb, which has earned him a space in the England squad. This would make him great addition at United.
Michael Olise, Crystal Palace
With the clear lack of attacking threat currently at United, Olise would be a great fit for both short term and long term, as he is producing great numbers at just 22-years-old.
The young winger has also missed chunks of this due to injury, but has a great return when fit with 15 goal contributions in 18 league games for Crystal Palace.
Frenkie De Jong, Barcelona
De Jong has been on the radar of Manchester United for a few transfer windows, with the obvious connection between him and the manager and this summer could be the time to go all out for him.
With the disappointing performances of Mount and Amrabat since their arrival, De Jong would add some class to the current midfield, and give them a better chance of competing in the UEFA Champions League in the future.
Yan Couto, Manchester City
United are clearly in need of more numbers at the back, and Couto has impressed this season while on loan with La Liga outfit Girona, so he would definitely improve United.
However, Couto will return to City at the end of the season, and they might be keen to keep him or not sell him to their arch rivals, if he is going to make them a better side.
