Victor Osimhen has been the subject of transfer speculation for well over a year now dating back to before last summer’s transfer window when multiple of the biggest clubs across Europe were said to be chasing the striker’s signature.
Osimhen reportedly opted to stay for one more season before making his seemingly inevitable departure this summer, and a poor campaign for Napoli looked to confirm that the Super Eagles star would certainly make his move at the end of the term.
While transfer news was constant throughout the year and heightened in the build-up to the on-going window, the rumours surrounding his potential move have gone rather quiet in recent weeks.
EPL clubs looking elsewhere?
Osimhen had been strongly linked with moves to Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea but those clubs have reportedly dropped their interest in the striker and are looking elsewhere due to concerns over his price and fitness record.
Manchester United’s attention has turned to Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, Arsenal are looking at Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea have held talks with Lille for Jonathan David.
This leaves a move looking increasingly less likely for the Nigerian superstar, but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed earlier in the campaign that the striker would leave the club at the end of the season, and there is more than enough time for something to materialise.
While reports have stated that Arsenal are looking to Viktor Gyokeres, many are suggesting that they are waiting for Osimhen’s price tag to decrease before making a move for the striker in the coming weeks.
Chelsea are still likely to be in the conversation for the striker’s acquisition as well but are reportedly waiting for Romelu Lukaku to leave the club in order to make the funds available for such an expensive transfer.
PSG move still on the cards?
Kylian Mbappe’s move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid was also confirmed just before the start of the 2024 European Championships. That move has left a gaping hole in the striker position for the French giants, leading many to believe they will look to bring in Osimhen as a more-than-capable replacement for Mbappe.
Move still likely
All of these recent reports have one thing in common, the Super Eagles striker is almost certain to make a move away from Italy this summer, but where he goes next is currently anyone’s guess.
