The Latest Update On Who Has Been Linked To Become New Nigeria Manager

There has been plenty of speculation over who will be the next Nigeria manager, and we take a deeper look at the latest news on who currently is the favourite to get the job.

The Super Eagles will want to appoint a new boss imminently as they are currently struggling in the World Cup 2026 qualification, so the form needs to improve drastically.

Finidi George recently announced that he has stood down from his role as head coach, after he took over the role from Jose Peseiro and things did not go to plan.

Jean-Louis Gasset

Jean-Louis Gasset has been heavily linked with the Super Eagles job, as Roberto De Zerbi is set to take over at Marseille which would leave the Frenchman without a job.

Gasset has previously managed Ivory Coast but was fired midway through the 2023 AFCON and he might be keen to get back into international management and take on the Super Eagles job.

Rui Vitoria

Rui Vitoria is another manager who has been linked with the Super Eagles job after his two-year spell as Egypt boss came to an end due to a poor 2023 AFCON.

Vitoria is a highly rated manager who won back-to-back league titles when he was in charge at Benfica, so he could be the man to change the Super Eagles’ fortune.

Toni Conceicao

The current favourite to be the new Super Eagles boss is Portuguese coach Toni Conceicao, formally manager of Cameroon where he guided them to the semi-final of AFCON 2021.

During his tenure as Cameroon boss, Conceicao managed 24 games losing just twice – this appointment would certainly excite the Super Eagles faithful.

Conceicao has been without a job for two years, but he certainly knows what it takes to manage at international level and could well be a good fit to take Nigeria where they need to be.
