Manchester United have recently secured the signature of Dutch international Joshua Zirkzee and we take a deeper look at what to expect from the 23-year-old.
Zirkzee has joined United in a deal worth £36.54m from Bologna on a five-year contract, with the option for a further 12 months.
The highly rated forward is the first senior team signing of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era, following his acquisition of 27.7% of the club back in December 2023.

Career So Far
The 23-year-old signed for Bayern Munich in 2017 from Feyenoord, where he made just 12 first-team appearances. He spent time out on loan with Parma and Anderlecht before Bologna came calling and signed Zirkzee for a fee of approximately £7.15m. He went on to make 53 appearances for the Serie A outfit over a two-year spell.
Zirkzee was called up to the Netherlands national team for the first time at Euro 2024 where he made two appearances off the bench.
Position / Type of Player
Zirkzee is primarily a central striker but can also play on the right wing or as a supporting forward. This versatility means he could form a partnership with Rasmus Højlund at the heart of the attack.
The Dutch international is known for his ability to take on defenders, using his skill and pace to dazzle opponents. At 6ft 4in, Zirkzee is also a threat in the air and physically strong, while demonstrating his competence in defending from the front with his ability to press defenders and use his presence effectively.
Stats
Zirkzee featured 37 times in all competitions last term for Bologna, netting 12 goals and contributing an impressive seven assists. The Dutchman was a key player for the Serie A outfit last season, playing a crucial role in securing a surprise UEFA Champions League spot for the 2024/25 season.
In the 2022/23 campaign, Zirkzee was a bit-part player for Bologna, scoring just twice in 19 league appearances. However, he demonstrated last term that when given the opportunity, he can significantly impact his side’s performance.
