Leny Yoro to Manchester United

Manchester United’s defence was a significant weakness in the 2023/24 campaign, conceding a worrying 58 times in 38 league matches—the most they have ever conceded in a Premier League season. Additionally, Raphael Varane left on a free transfer this summer, and reports suggest that Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire may also leave if suitable offers arrive.

Manchester United certainly spent big on their defensive replacement, investing €62 million in young star Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old excelled for Lille last season, playing 44 games across all competitions, and is touted as the next best central defender of his generation. United beat reported interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool to acquire Yoro, and they will be hoping he can play a pivotal role in improving their defence this season.

Amadou Onana to Aston Villa

Amadou Onana has had two brilliant campaigns for Everton since joining from Lille ahead of the 2022/23 season, playing 72 matches across all competitions. The midfielder already had links to some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs after his impressive season, particularly Manchester United, and Onana only gathered more attention with his performances for Belgium at the European Championships, where he was allowed much more freedom to showcase his ability.

Onana was quickly snatched up by Aston Villa following the end of the tournament for almost €60 million, marking an expensive but fantastic addition to an already talented Aston Villa midfield that will see him link up with Youri Tielemans in the middle of the park.

Savinho to Manchester City

Manchester City have seemingly put an emphasis back on adding dynamic and direct wingers to their squad in recent years, signing Jeremy Doku last season and now acquiring the services of Brazilian Savinho. The left-footed right winger had an excellent season for Girona last year, playing a major part in their surprising rise into the Champions League places with nine goals and 10 assists in the league alone.

Despite his reported market value being much higher at the time of his signing, Manchester City paid just €25 million for Savinho—a fee that has been extremely contentious in recent weeks. The contentious nature of the deal stems from reports that Manchester City’s owners also control Troyes, the club Savinho signed from, and he never played a game for them despite being their record signing. Regardless, if Savinho can have a similar impact as Doku did with his direct, attacking play next season, then the Brazilian could prove to be a superb signing for Manchester City.

Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion have been crying out for a talented left-footed right winger in recent years, with the more defensive-minded Solly March or 19-year-old Facundo Buonanotte, who often plays more centrally, being their best options for that position. They have seemingly found their man this summer, signing Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh for €35 million after a breakthrough campaign for Feyenoord in the last season. Minteh netted 11 goals and assisted a further five across all competitions, and his direct play could be a much-needed addition to the more possession-based style Brighton have played in recent years.

Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur

18-year-old Archie Gray had an impressive first full season for Leeds United in the Championship last year, playing 52 times across all competitions as his side narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League. Despite being so young, Gray showed that he was more than capable of physically and technically matching up against more senior players, and the midfielder has been predicted to have a phenomenal career if he can live up to his potential.

Tottenham Hotspur splashed out €41.25 million on Gray, demonstrating their confidence that he will develop into a superstar. The midfielder could have a large role to play in Ange Postecoglou’s dynamic system next season.
