Janne Anderson is set to be appointed as the next Super Eagles manager and we take a look at everything you need to know about the former Sweden national team boss.
Finidi George parted ways from his role as Nigeria head coach two months ago and the Super Eagles will face Benin Republic and Rwanda in 2025 AFCON qualifiers next month.
Early career as a manager
The experienced manager began his coaching career back in 2004 with his hometown club Orgryte, where he was at the reign for one season.
Andersson then took over at Norrkoping, where he lead them to the Swedish title in 2015, which was their first since 1989.
Experience at International level
Andersson was manager of the Swedish national team for seven years between 2016 and 2023, where he had great success and was loved by the fans.
The 61-year-old guided Sweden to their first FIFA World Cup for 12 years in 2018, after they eliminated Italy and the Netherlands in the qualifiers.
Sweden impressively topped their group in 2018, but consequently went on to be knocked out of the competition by a strong England side in the quarter-final of the competition.
Style of play
Despite Andersson’s age of 61, the veteran boss possesses a style of play of play which makes his teams very hard to break down but are efficient in attack, which was certainly evident during his time as Sweden manager.
Anderson was at the helm for 90 games, and his side netted 151 times which is a notable stat considering the lack of attacking options that he had at his disposal.
Personality off the pitch
Andersson is known for his no-nonsense approach off the field and is keen on a strong team spirit rather than relying on individuals to produce results.
There is no denying that there has been some off-field issues in the Super Eagles camp, which has caused a hindrance to performances on the pitch and this is something that Andersson will simply not stand for.
