Arsenal travelled to the Etihad Stadium yesterday to match up against Manchester City in the England Premier League and we take a closer look at how the 2-2 draw has left the two sides.
The Gunners held on for their lives in the second-half after Leandro Trossard was sent off just before the break, but City managed to find a last minute equaliser via John Stones.
Although we are just five games in, this result is likely to be a major talking point come the end of the season with both sides looking to compete for the title.
Current league positions
City currently sit top of the table with 13 points from a possible 15 and already look strong in their hopes for another league title.
The Gunners remain unbeaten, but are two points behind City after they picked up a draw earlier on in the campaign at home against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Arsenal would have gone into the game knowing that they could not afford to lose, as evidently every point matters after they finished just two points behind City last term.
Who the result favours more?
At the start of the game and after nine minutes when Erling Haaland scored, the Gunners would have been delighted to come away with a point.
However, this might have changed during the course of the game because Mikel Arteta’s side clawed it back to 2-1 and looked strong.
We believe that the point favours Arsenal more than the hosts because City now have to go to the Emirates later on in the campaign, where the Gunners will be confident that they can get can a result a bolster their chances at lifting the title. Also the fact Rodri looks set to miss the rest of the season represents a huge blow to the current champions.
Assessing upcoming league fixtures
Arsenal:
Leicester City (H)
Southampton (H)
AFC Bournemouth (A)
When looking at Arsenal’s next three fixtures, anything short of nine points would be deemed as a failure as they face two of the newly promoted teams at home and then Bournemouth away.
If the Gunners can come away from these three games with maximum points then they would have dropped just four points from a possible 24, which is a great position to be in.
Manchester City:
Newcastle United (A)
Fulham (H)
Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
Manchester City certainly have the tougher upcoming fixtures out of the two, with Newcastle United away in their next game and then Fulham in the game after, who have started the campaign well.
Pep Guardiola’s side look strong, however with Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri being injured, this will certainly make the next three games more difficult and give Arsenal a chance at climbing above them in the table.
