The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday with another set of nine games to wrap up the second matchday of the group stage.
These nine matches see some of Europe’s most elite teams come face to face, aiming to secure three points and improve their chances of qualifying directly into the round of 16. With this, we are going to take a closer look at a selection of the most intriguing matches this week, picking out our top tips and best booking code (all odds at time of writing).
Liverpool vs Bologna
Liverpool have had a strong start under their new boss Arne Slot, winning seven of their opening eight matches across all competitions, only suffering defeat to Nottingham Forest in a narrow 1-0 loss.
Bologna, on the other hand, have failed to hit the same heights they achieved throughout last season in the opening stages of 2024/25, winning just one of their opening seven games, drawing five and losing one.
With Liverpool in much better form while also boasting the home advantage, where they have been so strong in recent years, we expect a comfortable win for the hosts here.
Liverpool to win & over 2.5 goals, 1.48
Leipzig vs Juventus
Leipzig enjoyed a strong start to 2024/25, winning all of their first three matches, but they have found themselves facing difficulties in recent outings. They have won just one of their last four games, a 4-0 win against Augsburg, drawing two and losing their opening Champions League match to Atletico Madrid in that time.
Juventus, on the other hand, remain in good form coming into this game, with Thiago Motta’s side still yet to be beaten in their opening seven matches across all competitions. Motta has already turned his new side into a strong defensive and attacking unit, scoring 12 and conceding just one so far.
With this, we believe Juventus are the favourites heading into this match and will ultimately secure a win here.
Juventus to win, 3.05
Lille vs Real Madrid
Coming off the back of three incredible seasons with Real Madrid, scoring 69 and assisting 34 in 146 appearances across all competitions, Vinicius Junior has had a slow start to 2024/25 in comparison.
The forward has netted just three goals in the opening 10 matches, with Kylian Mbappe taking up the mantle as the team’s main goalscorer. However, the Frenchman could be ruled out of the second Champions League match with an injury, meaning Vinicius Junior is likely to start as Real Madrid’s main forward.
With this, the Brazilian should have plenty of chances against a Lille side that have conceded 13 goals in 11 matches this term, leading us to believe Vinicius Junior will score here.
Vinicius Junior to score anytime, 2.20
Aston Villa vs Bayern Munich
Harry Kane broke numerous records in his first year at Bayern Munich, a phenomenal season that saw the Englishman score 44 times and assist 12 in 45 appearances across competitions, but the striker has seemingly hit new heights so far this term.
Kane has already scored 10 goals and assisted four in seven matches across all competitions in 2024/25, including netting back-to-back hat-tricks in the middle of September.
Aston Villa have had a positive start to 2024/25, but Unai Emery’s team have struggled defensively at times, most recently conceding twice to newly-promoted Ipswich Town. With this, we believe Kane will get plenty of chances and ultimately score yet again.
Harry Kane to score anytime, 1.90
