Matchday 17 of the 2024/25 English Premier League season promises another thrilling weekend of action as the games continue to come thick and fast throughout the busy winter period. With teams battling for positions at both ends of the table as we near the midway point of the campaign, fans can expect high-intensity clashes and plenty of drama.
We take a closer look at a selection of the matches taking place, picking out our top tips and best booking code (odds at time of writing):
Aston Villa vs Manchester City
After a shaky period that saw Aston Villa fail to win in eight consecutive matches across all competitions, the Villans have largely returned to form in their last four outings, winning three and narrowly losing to Nottingham Forest.
As for Manchester City, they are still enduring the worst run under Pep Guardiola since he joined in 2016, having won just one of their last 11 matches, including eight losses in that time, with a particularly painful 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last time out.
While Aston Villa did lose to Forest in their last outing, they boast the home advantage for this match, and with Man City in awful form, including losing six of their last seven away games, we believe Villa will win here.
Aston Villa to win, 3.30
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal
In a repeat match-up of Wednesday’s EFL Cup quarter-final encounter, which Arsenal narrowly won 3-2 after a highly entertaining 90 minutes, Crystal Palace are set to host the Gunners on Saturday evening.
The hosts fielded an almost full-strength side in that EFL Cup quarter-final defeat, while Arsenal were far from their best 11 with the only usual starters being Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey and Leandro Trossard.
With Arsenal managing to best Crystal Palace with a second string side, they should dominate this match with their full strength team and come away with the three points.
Arsenal to win, 1.62
Everton vs Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson had a solid first season for Chelsea, scoring 17 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, but was often ridiculed and labelled a laughing stock as a striker, but Jackson has certainly proved any doubters wrong at the beginning of this campaign.
Jackson has already netted nine times in just 16 games this season, including three goals in his last four appearances for Chelsea, and with Everton’s defence often vulnerable, while Chelsea boast the best attack in the league with 37 goals scored in 16 matches, we believe the striker will score once again here.
Nicolas Jackson to score anytime, 2.60
Tottenham vs Liverpool
Tottenham have endured an extremely difficult period in recent weeks, from beating Man City and Aston Villa in back-to-back matches to winning just two of their next nine fixtures, one of which was a 4-0 win over the champions at the Etihad and the other a 5-0 demolition of Southampton last time out.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have been the most consistent side across Europe so far this season, losing just one of their opening 24 matches across all competitions, leaving them top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League and into the EFL Cup semi-finals.
With this, Liverpool will be the favourites going into the game, and due to Tottenham’s vulnerabilities in defence because of their extremely high-line, Liverpool will be strong favourites to win with plenty of goals scored.
Liverpool to win & over 2.5 goals, 2.02
