Watch: Sawadinho and Augustine Eguavoen Clash Over Victor Boniface

The latest episode of the Bet9ja HomeTurf Podcast got heated as panelist Sawadinho and former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen clashed over Victor Boniface and Nigeria’s lack of goalscoring options beyond Victor Osimhen.

Despite Boniface netting 21 goals last season as Bayer Leverkusen stormed to a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, the striker is still waiting for his first goal in a Super Eagles shirt. In Osimhen’s absence, Sawadinho voiced his frustration, claiming Boniface isn’t delivering for Nigeria and calling it a “slap on the nation” that the team is struggling for goals.

Sawadinho didn’t hold back, questioning whether Nigeria can score at all without Osimhen, pointing out that Samuel Chukwueze’s goal against Rwanda in November was an individual effort rather than a product of the team’s attacking play. He also suggested that Boniface should be dropped from the team if he continues to fire blanks.

Eguavoen, however, defended the striker, maintaining that Boniface will score and dismissing the idea that Nigeria should move on from him so soon.

This debate had the podcast panel split, and fans will no doubt have their own say on whether Boniface should be trusted to lead the line or whether Nigeria needs to look elsewhere for goals.
