Arsenal 2025/26 Premier League Season Preview – Is it finally their year?

For three straight seasons Arsenal have finished as runners-up. They have been close enough to touch the Premier League trophy but have watched others lift it instead. Now, after another summer of spending and squad strengthening, the question is simple: is this the year Mikel Arteta’s side get over the line?

Last Season Recap

  • Premier League: 2nd
  • FA Cup: Third Round
  • League Cup: Semi-final
  • Champions League: Semi-final
  • Top Scorer all comps: Kai Havertz (15)

The 2024/25 campaign brought familiar frustration. Arsenal were in the title race deep into the season but too many draws, coupled with a poor run in the winter, saw them fall short again. Injuries played their part – Bukayo Saka missed months of action, key defenders were sidelined, and both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz were unavailable for much of the second half of the season. In Europe, Arsenal reached the Champions League semi-finals but fell narrowly to PSG.

Summer Signings and Squad Outlook

Arsenal have addressed their biggest weakness with the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. The Sweden striker scored at a phenomenal rate in Portugal and should give Arsenal the 20-goal-a-season focal point they have lacked. Martin Zubimendi joins to anchor midfield and complement Declan Rice, while Noni Madueke adds depth and competition in wide areas.

The return to full fitness of William Saliba and the continued rise of Myles Lewis-Skelly give the squad a blend of proven quality and youthful energy. There are still whispers of a late move for Eberechi Eze, but even without further signings, Arsenal’s options look stronger than at any point in the Arteta era.

Key Player

Bukayo Saka remains the heartbeat of the team. At just 23, he is already one of the Premier League’s most consistent attackers. Keeping him fit and firing will be vital to Arsenal’s title hopes, and the signing of Madueke could help ease his workload.

Breakout Star

Myles Lewis-Skelly impressed as an emergency left-back last season but is expected to play more in his natural midfield role this term. Technically gifted and tactically intelligent, the academy graduate could play a major role in Arsenal’s push for silverware.

Special mention also goes to 15-year-old Max Dowman, who made headlines in pre-season with his composure and creativity well beyond his years. While minutes will be managed carefully, his talent is clear and he could make a cameo impact in cup competitions or late in league games.

Fixtures

We could have a clear picture of how Arsenal will fare after their first six matches, with trips to Old Trafford and Anfield in the first three games, followed by clashes with Manchester City and Newcastle before the end of September.

November and February bring consecutive matches against Tottenham and Chelsea, though they have a favourable Christmas period. The title run-in however, features meetings with Man City and Newcastle in two of the final six matches – a huge test of their mettle if they are still in the title race.

The Mood

Optimism is high. The board have backed Arteta, the squad is deep, and the fanbase can sense an opportunity. But after three consecutive second-place finishes, there is also an edge of impatience. Anything less than a major trophy this season will be seen as a failure.

Verdict

Liverpool’s resurgence under Arne Slot and Manchester City’s proven quality mean the title race will be fierce, but Arsenal look better equipped than ever. If Gyokeres adapts quickly and injuries are kinder, this could finally be their season.

With the level of attention Arsenal is gaining owing to their signings, an amount spend…. if they finish this season as usual without a major trophy ?? it will be so terribly ???
