NIGERIAN PLAYER WATCH – WHO IS IN UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ACTION THIS WEEK?

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League kicked off in sensational style on Tuesday night, including a remarkable 4-4 draw between Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, and more similar entertainment and drama is expected over the next two days of matchday one action.

For Nigerian fans, the spotlight will be firmly on the Super Eagles stars scattered across some of Europe’s elite clubs, as they aim to make an impact on this season’s competition.

We look at the Nigerian players in Champions League action on Wednesday and Thursday:

David Moses – Slavia Praha (vs Bodo/Glimt)

Moses has had a strong start to the new campaign for Slavia Praha, and while he has featured from both the bench and the starting team, the midfielder is likely to start their Champions League opener.

Igoh Ogbu – Slavia Praha (vs Bodo/Glimt)

Ogbu has only featured in four of Slavia Praha’s eight league games at the beginning of the new term, but the defender is widely predicted to be back in the starting 11 when they take on Bodo/Glimt.

Bruno Onyemaechi – Olympiakos (vs Pafos)

Onyemaechi has only made one substitute appearance for Olympiakos in the opening matches of this season, and the defender is expected to be named on the substitutes bench once again against Pafos.

Nathan Tella – Bayer Leverkusen (vs Copenhagen)

Tella has started every match for Bayer Leverkusen this campaign, and the 26-year-old should feature either behind the striker or as one of the two wing-backs for the German side against Copenhagen.

Raphael Onyedika – Club Brugge (vs AS Monaco)

Onyedika has consistently featured as either a starter or substitute for Club Brugge this season, and after his particularly strong performances against Rangers in their play-off round 9-1 aggregate win, the midfielder is expected to start on Thursday.

Vince Osuji – Club Brugge (vs AS Monaco)

Osuji has been on the bench numerous times for Club Brugge this season, but having failed to make an appearance for the senior side, his inclusion is unlikely when they take on AS Monaco.

George Ilenikhena – AS Monaco (vs Club Brugge)

Ilenikhena is unlikely to start for Monaco, but after coming from the bench to score the winner in their last game against Auxerre, the 19-year-old is sure to make a substitute appearance against Club Brugge.

Victor Osimhen – Galatasaray (vs Eintracht Frankfurt)

The striker would almost certainly start in attack for Galatasaray, but there are doubts about whether Osimhen will be fully fit having failed to appear since suffering a thigh injury earlier this month.
