As the English Premier League approaches matchday nine, the excitement and intrigue continue to build across England’s top flight. With early-season form starting to shape the title race, battle for European spots and the fight against relegation, plenty of drama and excitement is anticipated.
Today, we look at the biggest talking points ahead of this weekend’s English Premier League:
Amorim’s improved form to continue?
Ruben Amorim finally secured his first back-to-back EPL victories as Manchester United manager as his side fantastically defeated Liverpool 2-1 last weekend, following their 2-0 win against Sunderland prior to the international break.
Off the back of such a thrilling victory against their rivals, Amorim will be eager for his side to continue building momentum with a third straight victory when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
However, the Red Devils do have a disappointing record against the Seagulls in recent years, winning only one and losing six of their last seven EPL meetings.
Liverpool must break barren Premier League streak
Liverpool’s aforementioned 2-1 defeat to Manchester United extended their losing streak to four consecutive games across all competitions, including three straight English Premier League defeats.
The Reds finally ended that run with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League during midweek, and Arne Slot will now be hoping his side can build on that result and end their lacklustre league run with a much-needed win against Brentford.

Arsenal to maintain title charge
Arsenal are top of the English Premier League standings with a three point lead over second-placed Manchester City, and the Gunners will be hoping to maintain or improve upon their lead by securing another three points against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side have now won all of their last six games across all competitions, as well as all of their last three league outings, leaving them in significantly stronger form than their opponents.
The Eagles have now lost two and drawn one of their last three matches across all competitions, including a particularly devastating 1-0 defeat to AEK Larnaca in their most recent match in the Europa Conference League.
Nottingham Forest’s new era
Nottingham Forest’s new era under Sean Dyche, their third permanent manager already this season, started with a superb 2-0 victory against Porto in the Europa League during midweek, and the new boss will be hoping to build on that win with a much-needed league triumph on Sunday.
The Tricky Trees have not won in the league since the opening day of the season, with their one win, two draws and five defeats leaving them 18th in the standings, leaving Nottingham Forest eager to get a victory and potentially move out of the relegation zone in their first league game under new boss Dyche’s reign.
