Nigeria vs Algeria

Grand Stade de Marrakech
Nigeria have been one of the most impressive teams at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the Super Eagles breezing through the group stage after picking up three wins from their three Group C fixtures, followed by a dominant win over Mozambique in the round of 16.
Eric Chelle’s side have already scored a massive, and highly impressive, 12 goals in just four matches, while they have conceded only four times during that period, highlighting their quality at both ends of the pitch.
Looking to continue their stunning run and move one step closer to avenging their devastating AFCON final defeat in 2023, losing 2-1 to Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles will be aiming to build upon their 4-0 round of 16 win when they take on Algeria at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
While Nigeria are in superb form, Algeria are undoubtedly their biggest test of the competition thus far, with the Greens heading into this fixture having similarly won all four of their matches at AFCON.
Algeria comfortably finished first in Group E to secure their place in the knockout rounds, scoring seven and conceding only one goal, but they were put to the test as they narrowly defeated DR Congo in the round of 16.
Algeria were taken to extra-time in their first knockout game, dramatically securing the victory thanks to Adil Boulbina’s 119th-minute winner, meaning they narrowly ensured their place in the quarter-finals.
Algeria will be looking for an easier route to the semi-finals when they take on Nigeria, and with wins in all of their last four meetings against the Super Eagles, they will be full of confidence going into the encounter.
Team News
Ademola Lookman has been in sensational form for Nigeria at the 2025 AFCON, scoring in all of his three appearances and registering three goals and four assists in total, including a goal and two assists in the round of 16.
The forward will certainly keep his place just behind the forward line in this game, playing just behind a strike force of Victor Osimhen, who has three goals and one assist, and Akor Adams, who has one goal and two assists.
Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez is Algeria’s top scorer and talisman, and the forward will keep his place on the right wing, with Fares Chaibi likely to continue on the opposite flank and with Ibrahim Mzza and Mohamed Amoura slightly further forward.
Ismael Bennacer could drop out of the team after coming off with an injury in the round of 16, meaning Himad Abdelli could line up alongside Hicham Boudaoui in the middle of the park.
Nigeria Predicted XI: Nwabali; Osayi-Samuel, Ajayi, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Onyeka, Ndidi, Iwobi; Lookman; Osimhen, Adams
Algeria Predicted XI: Zidane; Belghali, Mandi, Bensebaini, Ait Nouri; Mahrez, Boudaoui, Abdelli, Chaibi; Maza, Amoura
