Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly presented the Nigeria Football Federation with a detailed list of 19 conditions as part of negotiations to extend his contract, raising fresh uncertainty over his long-term future with the national team.
According to Nigerian sports journalist Shina Oludare, the boss formally submitted the proposal on January 22, 2026, shortly after guiding Nigeria to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelle’s impact since taking charge has been widely praised, with the Super Eagles showing improved tactical organisation, attacking cohesion, and renewed belief on the continental stage.
However, with growing interest from other national teams and even reported links to club roles abroad, including speculation around the vacancy at Ligue 1 giants Marseille. Chelle appears keen to secure stronger guarantees before committing his future to Nigeria.

The Demands
At the centre of the discussions is a proposed salary increase to $130,000 per month, a figure that would reportedly cover Chelle, his technical staff and his personal assistant. Beyond financial terms, the coach is also pushing for structural changes designed to improve preparation, scouting, and overall professionalism within the national team setup.
Many of Chelle’s requests reflect challenges that have historically affected the Super Eagles, including delayed salary payments, limited scouting access, and interference in team selection. His demands suggest a clear desire to establish full technical control and create the kind of environment needed to compete consistently at the highest level.
From the NFF’s perspective, the situation presents a difficult balancing act. Chelle has delivered results and restored optimism around the national team, but meeting all 19 conditions could place significant financial and operational strain on the federation. With Nigeria aiming to return to the World Cup and challenge for future AFCON titles, stability in the dugout will be crucial.
Below is the full list of Eric Chelle’s reported 19 demands:
- Private car (SUV) with a chauffeur and security.
- House in a well secured environment with 24hrs uninterrupted power supply (electricity).
- Furnished office with projector for analysis.
- Internet provision.
- Flight tickets for wife and two children (Eric and wife Business class, children economy).
- GPS provision.
- Supply of proper equipment in accordance with the coach’s demand.
- Based on opponents, the coach has the right of choice regarding international friendly matches.
- Camping programs.
- The coach will initiate programs for youth development.
- Provision for the coach to travel, watch, monitor and engage players of the national teams abroad.
- Provision for the coach to travel to watch the local league to identify potential players for integration into the senior team, U23, U20 and U17.
- No interference in team selection and player call-ups.
- The NFF has to issue a working contract for my staff.
- Salary needs to be paid on or before the 30th of every month.
- Bonus and allowance as per federation structure.
- Request to include my PA in the bonus and allowance structure.
- Proposed salary of $130,000 monthly (including technical staff and PA).
- Monthly meeting with all the national team coaches.
While some of these conditions align with standard expectations for top-level international coaches, others may prove more difficult for the federation to implement.
What remains clear is that Chelle is not just negotiating a contract – he is attempting to reshape the operational structure around the Super Eagles.
Whether the NFF agrees to the terms could define the next chapter of Nigerian football. Retaining Chelle could ensure continuity and build on recent progress, but failure to reach an agreement may open the door for other nations or clubs to step in.
For now, negotiations continue – and the future of the Super Eagles’ ambitious project hangs in the balance.
