SATURDAY 22 AUGUST

HULL CITY VS MANCHESTER UNITED

Hull City return to the Premier League after nine years and face a tough opening test against Manchester United at the MKM Stadium. Hull have made several additions to strengthen their squad, but questions remain over whether they have enough quality to compete consistently at this level.

Manchester United come into the new season with renewed confidence after finishing third last season under Michael Carrick and securing Champions League football. United have also strengthened their midfield with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Bruno Fernandes remains a key figure. Despite playing away from home, United should have enough quality and experience to start the campaign with three points.

PREDICTION – Manchester United to win @ 1.40 odds

NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs LEEDS UNITED

Nottingham Forest begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home against Leeds United, with Forest hoping for a more stable season under Oliver Glasner after finishing 16th last term. Their pre-season ended positively with a 2-0 win over Brest, while the new additions to the squad should give them more quality and balance.

Leeds also come into the game with optimism after a strong summer window and a 4-0 pre-season win over Augsburg. Daniel Farke’s side have attacking quality and the ability to create chances, while Forest should be dangerous at the City Ground. With both teams capable of finding the net, this has the makings of an open contest.

PREDICTION – Both teams to score @ 1.71 odds

ESPANYOL VS REAL MADRID

Espanyol come into this game full of confidence after opening their La Liga campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Levante. They showed good attacking intent and will have home advantage at the RCDE Stadium, but they face a much tougher challenge against Real Madrid.

Real Madrid begin their league campaign under José Mourinho with plenty of expectations after a strong pre-season and a major squad rebuild. Los Blancos have dominated this fixture in recent meetings, winning both league encounters last season, and their superior quality in attack should give them the edge despite Espanyol’s positive start.

PREDICTION – Real Madrid to win @ 1.44 odds

SUNDAY 23 AUGUST

MANCHESTER CITY VS BOURNEMOUTH

Manchester City begin a new Premier League era under Enzo Maresca after Pep Guardiola’s departure, with expectations still high despite losing key players such as Rodri and Bernardo Silva. City will have home advantage at the Etihad and possess enough attacking quality, led by Erling Haaland, to cause Bournemouth plenty of problems.

Bournemouth had a solid campaign last season and will be under new manager Marco Rose, but this is a difficult opening fixture away to City. Manchester City have won all nine of their previous Premier League home meetings with Bournemouth, scoring 34 goals in those matches. With City looking to start the Maresca era with a statement victory, they should have enough quality to take all three points.

PREDICTION – Manchester City to win @ 1.54 odds

NEWCASTLE UNITED VS LIVERPOOL

Newcastle United begin the new Premier League season at St James’ Park under new manager Matthias Jaissle, but they have undergone significant changes during the summer with key players leaving. Their recent pre-season results have been mixed, although they have shown an ability to score goals at home.

Liverpool also enter a new era under Andoni Iraola, with a more aggressive attacking approach expected. Despite losing Mohamed Salah and making changes to their defence, Liverpool still have plenty of attacking quality, while their defensive unit may need time to settle. With Newcastle having scored and conceded in each of their last seven league games at St James’ Park, this has the potential to be an entertaining, high-scoring encounter.

PREDICTION – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.48 odds

FROSINONE VS JUVENTUS

Frosinone return to Serie A after securing promotion last season and will be looking to make a strong start at home. They come into the fixture with good momentum, having beaten Juve Stabia 4-1 in the Coppa Italia, and will hope their attacking approach can cause problems for Juventus.

Juventus have enjoyed a strong pre-season, winning four of their last five friendlies, including victories over Chelsea and Nice. Despite Frosinone’s momentum and home advantage, Juventus have dominated this fixture historically, winning the last six meetings between the sides. Their greater quality and experience should give them the edge.

PREDICTION – Juventus to win @ 1.48 odds

STADE RENNES VS PSG

Stade Rennes come into this opening Ligue 1 fixture with confidence after finishing fifth last season and showing attacking quality in pre-season. They also beat PSG 3-1 in their most recent meeting at Roazhon Park, so they will believe they can cause another upset. However, PSG remain the reigning Ligue 1 champions and have the deeper squad and greater individual quality.

PSG have started the new campaign with a defeat to Lens in the Trophée des Champions, but their overall quality makes them strong favourites to begin their league title defence with a win. Interestingly, the match has been moved from Paris to Rennes because of damage to the Parc des Princes pitch, giving Rennes home advantage. Even so, PSG should have enough attacking quality to overcome the challenge.

PREDICTION – PSG to win @ 1.56 odds

ELCHE VS BARCELONA

Elche started their La Liga campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Deportivo and will now face a much tougher test against the defending champions at the Martínez Valero. They have home advantage and should look to play positively, but Barcelona’s attacking quality presents a major challenge.

Barcelona will be expected to control the game and create plenty of chances, with their attacking players capable of turning pressure into goals. With Elche likely to have opportunities of their own and Barça possessing enough firepower to score multiple times, this could develop into an entertaining contest with at least three goals.

PREDICTION – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.44 odds
