EFL Cup Betting: Back Our 77.00 Cupset Double

Fancy a couple of CUPSETS in the EFL Cup tonight?

After a huge night of cup action on Tuesday, Wednesday gives us two fascinating Premier League vs Championship clashes. Newcastle host West Brom at St James’ Park, while Charlton make the short trip across London to face Tottenham.

The Premier League pair are naturally heavy favourites, but both Championship sides have started the season in brilliant form. We think there is enough vulnerability in Newcastle and Spurs to make a shock double worth considering.

Our 77.00 EFL Cup Cupset Double

  • West Brom to beat Newcastle
  • Charlton to beat Tottenham

Combined odds: 77.00

Odds correct at time of writing and subject to change.

It’s ambitious, but this is cup football. Here’s why we think two huge upsets could be on the cards.

Newcastle vs West Brom: Can the Baggies Stun St James’ Park?

West Brom could hardly arrive on Tyneside in better shape.

They are one of only three Championship teams to have won both of their opening league matches, beginning with an impressive victory away at Norwich. That was followed by an even bigger statement as recently-relegated Burnley were dispatched 3-1 at The Hawthorns.

Their cup form has been just as convincing. West Brom won 4-1 away at Rotherham in the first round and also enjoyed a perfect pre-season, scoring 13 goals and conceding only twice.

It all points towards a side playing with serious confidence.

Newcastle are at the opposite end of the spectrum, going through a major transition following Eddie Howe’s departure. New boss Matthias Jaissle has inherited a squad without three of last season’s biggest stars after Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes all departed.

Injuries to Dan Burn, Joelinton and Tino Livramento further reduce their options, while another Premier League game against Tottenham awaits on Saturday.

Newcastle have taken the EFL Cup seriously in recent seasons, even lifting the trophy in 2025, so West Brom still face an enormous challenge. However, if Jaissle rotates his smaller squad, one of the Championship’s form teams could have an opportunity to punish them.

Our pick: West Brom to win

Tottenham vs Charlton: Another London Shock?

If West Brom are flying, so are Charlton.

The Addicks are another of the three Championship clubs with a perfect record, winning both of their opening league games 2-1.

They first defeated a Derby side who narrowly missed the playoffs last season before producing a massive result away to Championship title favourites West Ham.

More than 59,000 supporters were at the London Stadium, but Charlton embraced their underdog status and came away with a superb 2-1 victory…an experience they can definitely draw on tonight.

Tottenham could hardly have experienced a more contrasting start to the Premier League season.

After a summer of huge spending, Roberto De Zerbi’s side were beaten 3-0 by Brentford on the opening weekend, with the Spurs boss admitting afterwards that his players are “not a team yet”.

There are injury problems too, with Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison among those unavailable.

Spurs still possess vastly more expensive individual talent, but Charlton have already shown at West Ham that reputation means very little to them.

Another trip to a Premier League stadium now awaits. Could another upset follow?

Our pick: Charlton to win

Back Our 77.00 Cupset Double

Two Championship sides with 100% league records against two Premier League clubs dealing with significant early-season disruption.

Cup football doesn’t always follow the script, and that’s why we’re taking a swing at a huge Wednesday night double.
