WATCH: Lisandro Martinez Slams Man Utd Board After Atletico Defeat

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has launched a scathing attack on the club’s hierarchy following Tuesday night’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid.

The result extended United’s winless run to five matches, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick after a disappointing start to the season.

But Martínez believes the problems go beyond the manager and players, questioning the club’s failure to strengthen the squad sufficiently during the summer transfer window.

“We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well,” the Argentine told Amazon Prime Video.

“I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox].”

The defender also criticised United’s tendency to change managers rather than address wider problems at the club.

“You can’t keep changing, changing, changing the manager. What about other areas? I can’t say more.”

Martínez’s comments sparked a furious reaction from Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, who warned that publicly questioning the quality of the squad could cause serious problems.

“Something like that will rip that dressing room apart,” Rooney said.

Former United defender Ashley Young also questioned the timing of the comments, arguing that players must take responsibility for their performances.

With just two wins from nine matches this season, United now face mounting questions about their recruitment, leadership and direction under Carrick.
