4 Of The Biggest Transfer Flops From The 2023 Summer Window

It was recently announced that Jordan Henderson has signed for Eredivisie giants Ajax.

The former Liverpool captain lasted just six months in Saudi Arabia, in what was a highly controversial move last summer.

But now back in Europe, there’s no doubting his time at Al-Ettifaq was a complete flop but he’s not the only player to have suffered after moving last summer.

The most recent summer transfer window saw some players switch clubs for large fees, but not all worked out after certain individuals have failed to fit in with their new sides. Some have also been linked with another move, just months after signing for their new clubs.

We picked out four other transfer flops from the summer 2023 window.

Matheus Nunes

Wolverhampton Wanderers – Manchester City

Matheus Nunes made the switch in the summer to reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City after impressing during the 2022/23 campaign with Wolves.

The move has far from worked out after Nunes has been nothing short of an outcast for City, so far making just three starts in the league, therefore being a massive flop thus far.

Roberto Firmino

Liverpool – Al Ahli Saudi

Roberto Firmino was a huge part of Liverpool’s success in recent times but he left the club in the summer to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ahli but the move has far from worked out.

The Brazilian forward has found the back of the net just three times in the league, and he has already been linked with a move away from the club after reportedly failing to settle in with his new side.

Mason Mount

Chelsea – Manchester United

Mason Mount made the big money move from Chelsea to fellow Premier League giants Manchester United in the summer, but the United faithful will be far from impressed with how he has performed since.

Albeit, the England international has suffered with injury woes since signing, but he has featured eight times in the Premier League while failing to register a goal or assist for his new side.

Randal Kolo Muani

Eintracht Frankfurt – PSG

Randal Kolo Muani made the switch to European giants PSG in the summer for an astounding fee of €90m, but he has not exactly hit the ground running since signing for the Ligue 1 side.

Kolo Muani has started for PSG just four times in the league after he has failed to impress, and he has found the back of the net just once so far in six UEFA Champions League starts, so has certainly not shown his worth since PSG bought him in the summer.
