This week marks the start of the highly anticipated UEFA League and we take a closer look at how the first round of fixtures could unfold.
There are plenty of sides that have not played in the competition before that will be featuring, mixed with a host of clubs that have great experience.
Brighton to continue league form?
Brighton & Hove Albion had a superb campaign last season meaning that they qualified for Europe for the first time in the clubs history.
The Seagulls have continued their fine form this season by winning four out of the opening five games and have looked solid so it will be interesting to see if they can continue this on the European stage.
Their first game ever in Europe is at home to AEK Athens and you wouldn’t bet against them making the perfect start.
Liverpool class to shine through
Liverpool have started their English Premier League campaign well as they are unbeaten after five games played, with an impressive comeback in their last fixture when they came from behind to win 3-1.
The Reds will be disappointed that a poor term last campaign meant that they did not qualify for the UEFA Champions League, so they will certainly head into this competition as one of the favourites.
West Ham to go one better?
West Ham United won the UEFA Europa Conference League last term, which consequently meant that they qualified for the Europa League, which would arguably be a greater challenge for them after they struggled and finished 14th in the Premier League.
However, the Hammers have started the 2023/24 campaign well as they have lost just once in their opening five league games, and that defeat was against reigning champions Manchester City. They start their campaign at home to Serbian side Backa Topola with three points expected.
Roma to bounce back after final defeat
AS Roma reached the final of the Europa League last season where they unfortunately lost on penalties against Sevilla, so Jose Mourinho might be hoping that they can go one further and win the competition this time around.
The Italian side have had a disappointing start to the 2023/24 season as they have won just once from their opening four league games, so the faithful will be hoping this form can change on the European stage.
