Erik ten Hag has recently been relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager after his tenure at the club was deemed a failure by those in higher management.
The Dutch boss spent £617 million across five transfer windows. Here, we examine five signings that failed to deliver and ultimately contributed to his dismissal.

1. Antony, £85m
Having previously worked with Antony at Ajax, Ten Hag’s decision to sign him is widely regarded as the worst during his time at United. The Brazilian cost the club a staggering £85 million, yet he has managed to produce only 12 goals and five assists in 87 appearances.
2. Casemiro, £70m
The signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro raised eyebrows due to his age—30 years old and seemingly past his prime—at a hefty fee of £70 million. Since his arrival, he has faced significant challenges in England, struggling to adapt to the league’s pace and making some costly errors.
3. Sofyan Amrabat, Loan (£8.5m)
Amrabat joined United on loan, costing the club £8.5 million. Unfortunately, his performances have been somewhat laughable, reflecting poorly on Ten Hag. The Moroccan midfielder made 30 appearances for United last season, receiving nine yellow cards and failing to contribute with a goal or assist.
4. Mason Mount, £60m
Mason Mount’s transfer to United initially appeared promising due to his potential. However, injuries and poor form have hindered his contributions, meaning he has yet to justify his £60 million price tag. Mount has played just 17 times in the Premier League, with 10 of those appearances coming from the bench, scoring only one goal.
5. Tyrell Malacia, £14.5m
Malacia was brought in as cover for Luke Shaw, who frequently struggles with injuries. However, the Dutchman has not made the desired impact since his arrival. He featured 22 times in his debut Premier League season but has since battled injuries and, when fit, has failed to find his best form.
