Ange Postecoglou has recently been announced as the Tottenham Hotspur manager, and we picked out what he needs to do to turn things around in North London.
Spurs had a season well below par after they finished eighth in the Premier League, so the faithful will be hoping that Australian can be the man to get them back into Europe.
Postecoglou has won back to back Scottish Premiership titles and won the domestic treble last term, which was enough for him to be a fan of Daniel Levy’s.
Style of play
It has been evident that in recent times that Tottenham Hotspur have opted for a more defensive approach, with previous managers opting to play five-at-the-back formations- a stark contrast from their aggressive attacking football under Mauricio Pochettino.
Postecoglou will look to implement the offensive style of play that he had put in place during his time at Celtic- hopefully for Spurs that will lead to a bit more joy, and give the fans a more exciting watch week in week out.
Get rid of deadwood
There are a lot of players currently at Spurs who have been at the club for a lengthy period and have been performing below par, such as Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, so the Australian may look to get rid of some of these players in order to get new talent in the door.
A perfect example of this approach proving a success is Spurs’ arch rivals, Arsenal, where they had to go through a transition phase over several transfer windows to get the players out the door so that Mikel Arteta could bring in players to suit his system at the club.
Keep Harry Kane
Harry Kane went somewhat under the radar last term because of the poor season that his side had and the goal scoring record of Erling Haaland, but the English striker ended the campaign with 30 goals in 38 Premier League games- an excellent return for a side that were severely lacking in creativity and cutting edge.
The Three Lions skipper has been heavily linked with a move away from the club, but it would be a monumental success for Postecoglou to keep the 29-year-old at the club next season if he wants to improve on last season’s disaster.
How do you think Postecoglou will do in charge at Spurs?
