The 2024/25 edition of the UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday, the first season of the revamped group stage.
These matches continue coming thick and fast throughout Wednesday evening, with 12 of Europe’s elite teams set to come face to face in six scheduled fixtures. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at a selection of these matches and pick out our top tips and best booking code: (odds available at time of writing)
Club Brugge vs Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund came extremely close to pulling off a remarkable underdog victory in last season’s Champions League, eventually falling to a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in a final that saw the German side have plenty of opportunities to take the lead.
After four games of the 2024/25 season, Dortmund are still yet to be beaten, recording three victories and one draw, leaving them in strong form heading into this one. In comparison, Club Brugge had an awful start to their campaign, failing to win in any of their first four, but they have recovered in recent games with four consecutive wins.
While Club Brugge have bounced back in past matches, and also hold the home advantage, we expect a confident Borussia Dortmund side to take the victory here and extend their unbeaten start.
Borussia Dortmund to win by 2 goals, 4.85
Celtic vs Slovan Bratislava
Celtic have been simply phenomenal in recent months, ending the last season by going unbeaten in their last 12 matches across all competitions, followed by an unbeaten pre-season that included victories against Manchester City and Chelsea. The Bhoys have continued that form into the new campaign, winning all of their first six matches across all competitions.
With the Scottish champions also playing at home in this match, where they have been so formidable throughout their history, we do expect Celtic to take all three points, though Slovan Bratislava could prove a challenging test.
Celtic to win & over 2.5 goals, 1.83
PSG vs Girona
Despite losing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer to Real Madrid during the summer, PSG’s start to the season has not been affected with the French giants comfortably winning all of their first four games with an aggregate score of 16-3.
Girona lost a number of their own star players during the summer after a brilliant 2023/24 that saw them unexpectedly finish third, and they have struggled in their opening fixtures. Two defeats, two wins and a draw mark an extremely mixed opening to the campaign, and they will go into this game as major underdogs.
With this, we expect PSG’s dominance in the early stages of the season to continue with another victory, inflicting more suffering on Girona.
PSG to win, 1.42
Manchester City vs Inter
Erling Haaland’s overwhelming brilliance in front of goal should come to no one’s surprise at this point having seen the Norwegian score at a simply breathtaking rate throughout his entire career, but not many would have expected the levels he is showing at this stage of the season.
Just four Premier League games into the campaign and Haaland already has nine goals to his name, breaking Wayne Rooney’s record of eight goals in the first four matches of a season. With Man City likely to be in control of this game and sure to create chances, Haaland is almost inevitably going to get himself on the scoresheet.
Erling Haaland to score anytime, 1.80
