As football clubs prepare for the upcoming 2024/25 season, pre-season friendlies provide a crucial opportunity for teams to fine-tune their tactics, build fitness and integrate any new signings into the squad.
This weekend there are a whole host of friendlies set to take place as teams gear up for the coming campaign, and in this article, we’re going to take a closer look at a selection of the matches and pick out our top tips and booking codes:
Liverpool vs Real Betis
Arne Slot’s side failed to get off to the ideal start in their first pre-season friendly against Preston North End, losing 1-0 after a phenomenal long-range strike from Robbie Brady.
While Slot will be looking for his side to improve against a higher level of opposition in this game, his squad is extremely thin in defence with a majority of the main starters still on holiday following the European Championships.
Real Betis won their only friendly 5-1 against Austria Salzburg, and while we do not expect them to pick up a victory here, we do believe they will make it a difficult game for Liverpool and come away with a draw.
Liverpool & Real Betis to draw, 3.60
Vissel Kobe vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham have had an extremely busy pre-season so far, playing four matches already, and it has been very successful for Ange Postecoglou’s men. They drew in their first match against Newcastle United just three days after the English Premier League ended, before comprehensively beating Cambridge United, Hearts and QPR.
As for Vissel Kobe, they are currently over halfway through their J1 League season, disappointingly sitting fourth in the table as they look to defend their league title from last campaign.
While Vissel Kobe should be more match-sharp than their opponents, Spurs boast a much stronger squad and have been impressive in pre-season so far, leading us to believe they will win this one.
Tottenham Hotspur to win, 1.30
Arsenal vs Manchester United
Arsenal kick-started their pre-season schedule with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, going on to beat them on penalties, while Manchester United lost their first match to Rosenborg before comfortably beating Rangers 2-0.
Both squads are missing out on a number of key players for this game due to their involvement with the Olympics, players still on holiday following the European Championships and Copa America, injuries or simply joining up with the squad in the following weeks.
Matches between top sides in friendlies are always hard to judge, but neither side will want to show any weakness ahead of the new campaign, and we expect this one to end all square.
Arsenal & Manchester United to draw, 4.05
