Best EPL Goals Between Chelsea & Arsenal

Saturday evening sees Chelsea host London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a game that could see Chelsea achieve three English Premier League wins in a row for the first time since October 2022.

Both teams have had spells of dominance in the Premier League era and have had some of the best players to have stepped foot in the league play for them. These players have gone on to make all the difference in so many fixtures, including this particularly fiery one between Chelsea and Arsenal.

Read on as we take our pick of the best five goals this fixture has provided in the English Premier League:

Eden Hazard – 4 February 2017

Chelsea 3-1 Arsenal

Earlier this month Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football at just 32-years-old. What better way to remember his exceptional talent than looking at one of his best goals which came against Arsenal.

Collecting the ball just inside his half, Hazard chopped inside Laurent Koscielny and managed to push off Francis Coquelin who went flying to the floor. Squaring up with Koscielny once again as he drove towards the box, Hazard dropped a shoulder and cut right before bouncing the ball over the onrushing Petr Cech and into the net.

Nwankwo Kanu – 23 October 1999

Chelsea 2-3 Arsenal

Arsenal went into the last 15 minutes of the game trailing 2-0 and with Chelsea yet to concede at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League that season, it looked as though the game was done. Kanu had other ideas though as he went on to score twice to level the game, but the Nigerian wasn’t done there. Winning the ball back on the touchline, Kanu was all of a sudden faced up to Ed De Goey who had bizarrely decided to rush out to the striker. Kanu expertly rounded the keeper and was faced up by four defenders and a seemingly impossible angle, but Kanu made it possible as he curled into the far corner to seal a fantastic comeback.

Nigel Winterburn – 21 September 1997

Chelsea 2-3 Arsenal

Another last minute winner appears in this list for Arsenal, this time coming from the unlikely left boot of Nigel Winterburn. Running onto the ball almost 50 yards out from goal, the left-back drove towards the box before unleashing a superb shot into the top right to win the game for Arsenal.

Alex – 3 October 2010

Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

Alex scored his fair amount of free-kicks for Chelsea and arguably his best came in this game against Arsenal. Lining up with his trademark long run up, Alex sprinted up to the ball and hammered the ball with the outside of his boot which sent it rocketing into the top right corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Michael Essien – 10 December 2006

Cheslea 1-1 Arsenal

The final effort in this list may just be the best of the lot. Chelsea were trailing the game with just six minutes left on the clock and it looked as though Chelsea’s 51-game unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end. But then Michael Essien decided to fire off a shot from nearly 30 yards out, and the ball went soaring and curling towards the far post and into the net with the keeper getting no where near it.
