Chelsea were far from one of the favourites to even reach the Club World Cup final, let alone be in with a chance of winning the entire competition, but the Blues have impressed throughout the tournament and are now just one step away from glory.
Enzo Maresca’s men progressed from Group D in second spot behind Flamengo having recorded two wins and one loss – beating Los Angeles FC (2-0) and Esperance Sportive de Tunis (3-0) and losing to Flamengo (3-1).
The Blues went on to smash Benfica 4-1 after 120 minutes in their last 16 clash, followed by beating Palmeiras 2-1 in the quarter-final and comfortably defeating Fluminense 2-0 in the semi-final.
Maresca’s side have shown a great tactical versatility on their way to the final, with constantly changing line-ups and tactical systems, from wingers being asked to hold the width while the full-backs invert into central positions, to the full-backs taking on wider areas as the wingers cut further inside.
Chelsea will need another Maresca masterclass if they are to win on Sunday, as they now face reigning Champions League winners and undoubtedly the favourites – Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG, on the back of their 5-0 Champions League final triumph, defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the first group stage match – setting the tempo for the rest of their tournament.
A slight blip occurred as they lost 1-0 to Botafogo in Group B, but they followed it with a comfortable 2-0 win against Seattle Sounders to ensure they progressed from the group in first spot.
PSG have since beaten Inter Miami 4-0 in the last 16, Bayern Munich 2-0 in the quarter-finals and unbelievably dismantled Real Madrid as they won 4-0 against Los Blancos to book their place in the final.
Luis Enrique’s side have seemingly perfected the tiki-taka style, blending the incisive passing system with a high-pressing style that means they are able to consistently win the ball back high up the pitch and sustain lengthy periods of attacks – allowing them to wear down opposition defences and score, while they are also an adept side on the counter attack.
Team News
Benoit Badiashile is confirmed to miss Sunday’s final due to a leg injury that the central defender sustained in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Benfica in the last 16, though the defender would still be unlikely to displace Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah in Chelsea’s expected centre-back pairing.
Moises Caicedo could also miss the final after the midfielder was forced off in their semi-final due to a twisted ankle, but the Blues appear to be hopeful that the Ecuadorian will be fit and available to face Paris Saint-Germain.
In attack, new-boy Joao Pedro scored a brace on his first start for the club against Fluminense, and the forward could shift to the right side in place of Christopher Nkunku to allow for Liam Delap to also start in attack.
As for PSG, Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez were both unavailable for their semi-final due to receiving red cards in the quarters, meaning Marquinhos was partnered by Lucas Beraldo, but Pacho is expected to come back into the team for the final.
Ousmane Dembele also earned his first start of the tournament after recovering from injury in the earlier stages, and having produced a superb performance against Real Madrid – including one goal, one assist and one pre-assist, the forward should start in attack.
Chelsea Predicted XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Pedro, Palmer, Neto; Delap
Paris Saint-Germain Predicted XI: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Bet9ja Tips
Chelsea and PSG have both scored a number of early goals throughout this tournament, and as both will undoubtedly aim to make use of their quick starts to take the lead in the final, we believe there will be a goal inside 10 minutes.
PSG look almost unstoppable heading into the final, while Chelsea have shown signs of vulnerability despite their victories on the road to the final, leading us to expect PSG to secure another trophy.
Dembele’s role as the centre-forward for PSG consistently troubles defenders, with his ability to drop deep or race in-behind and his two-footedness causing extreme problems for opposition defences. Those traits have helped the Frenchman to a career-best 35 goals this season, and we believe the Ballon d’Or favourite will add another goal and trophy to this season’s haul with a goal in the final, at odds of 2.20.
