Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Milan
Saturday 31 May, 20:00
Allianz Arena
Paris Saint-Germain’s European campaign can be split into two very contrasting phases, with Luis Enrique’s side barely scraping through the league phase before establishing themselves as one of Europe’s strongest sides on their route to the final.
PSG won their opening league phase clash with Girona but failed to win their next four games, losing to Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich and drawing with PSV Eindhoven, leaving them in 25th place with just four points from five games.
A 3-0 victory against Red Bull Salzburg increased their standing, but their Champions League hopes effectively rested on their clash with Manchester City. PSG trailed 2-0 in the 53rd minute, looking like they were down and out, but Enrique’s side stood tall as they scored four goals to secure a statement victory. A 4-1 win against Stuttgart on the final day then ensured they would finish 15th in the table.
Enrique’s side have not looked back since their victory over Man City, destroying Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the play-off round, narrowly beating Liverpool 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw in the round of 16, defeating Aston Villa 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals and eliminating Arsenal 3-1 in the semi-finals.
The French side have been helped by wrapping up the Ligue 1 title with plenty of games left to play, meaning they have been able to rest their key starters for the Champions League clashes – something other clubs have not had the opportunity to do.
While many doubted their chances heading into the tournament, especially given Kylian Mbappe’s departure, Enrique’s men have pulled together to create a highly entertaining and effective team, with the attacking quality of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola all making up for the absence of their former striker.
As for Inter, Simone Inzaghi’s side established themselves as one of the favourites to go far in the competition thanks to their impressive league phase campaign, where they finished fourth with six wins, one draw and one defeat from eight games.
Most impressively is the fact that Inter scored 11 and conceded just once in their eight league phase matches, showing their defensive quality – a trait that has been apparent throughout most of their campaign.
Inzaghi’s men would go on to defeat Feyenoord 4-1 on aggregate in the round of 16, Bayern Munich 4-3 in the quarter-finals and take part in one of the most entertaining semi-final ties in the history of the competition as they bested Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate.
While PSG were able to rest players in their domestic league due to winning the title early in the season, Inter narrowly missed out on the Serie A title on the final day as they finished a point behind Napoli – though Inzaghi’s heavy rotation in the competition certainly shows their focus is on this competition.
Now aiming to go one step further than their 2022/23 final defeat to Manchester City, Inter will look to rely on their defensive strength and counter attacking ability to lead them to a fourth Champions League title.

Team News
Paris Saint-Germain are heading into the final with only one player missing out due to injury, as Presnel Kimpembe is ruled out due to a foot injury that was sustained at the beginning of the month.
Enrique’s side has been largely unchanged in this competition, especially their wonderful midfield trio of Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz, and all three are expected to start against Inter Milan.
The same can be said for their defensive line-up, where Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi (formerly of Inter Milan), Marquinhos, Willian Pacho and Nuno Mendes will all certainly start.
The only selection headache that Enrique faces is likely to come in the forward positions, where the Spaniard will have to choose between Barcola or Doue to start alongside Kvaratskhelia and Dembele.
For Inter Milan, Valentin Carboni is the only guaranteed absentee due to a cruciate ligament injury, with Benjamin Pavard, Piotr Zielinski and Yann Aurel Bisseck all set to be assessed ahead of the final.
Similarly to PSG, Inter Milan’s side has remained largely unchanged in this competition, with Yann Sommer, Pavard, Alessandro Bastoni, Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez all starting a majority of their European matches.
Federico Dimarco and Francesco Acerbi will almost certainly make up the final two places in the Inter Milan side that starts the final on Saturday.
Paris Saint-Germain Predicted XI: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
Inter Milan Predicted XI: Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez
Bet9ja Tips
These two sides have been involved in some of the most entertaining fixtures on the route to Saturday’s final, and we expect plenty more drama and action to be in store at the Allianz Arena.
While Inter have often been extremely strong defensively, cracks did show in their eventual 7-6 aggregate win against Barcelona in the semi-final, and with PSG boasting some of the highest quality attacking players in Europe, we expect the French side to present a similar problem for the Italian’s defence. However, PSG have also given up major opportunities in the matches on their route to the final, and we expect Inter to capitalise when given the chance to break forward. With this in mind, we believe there will be multiple goals in this final, and you can get odds of over 2.5 goals to be scored at 2.00.
Dembele has been one of the standout players across Europe this season, especially since moving to a more central position since the turn of the year, and given his superb goalscoring record this term, with 33 goals in 48 matches, we believe the forward will score in this one.
Ultimately, the final showdown between PSG and Inter is an extremely close on to call, with the attacking brilliance of PSG clashing with the tactical resilience of Inter. However, we believe that the ingenuity and skill of PSG’s creative and forward players will eventually prove too much to handle, leading us to expect a win for the French champions.
