Now the dust has settled on the round of 16, the UEFA Champions League is firmly into the business end of the competition.
Eight teams remain. And it is a heavyweight line-up.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool alone account for 32 European titles between them, while defending champions Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League leaders Arsenal are also firmly in the mix. Every tie now feels like a final.
With the road to Budapest mapped out, here’s how the quarter-finals look and which teams are best placed to go all the way.

PSG vs Liverpool – A Rivalry Renewed
This one comes with serious recent history.
PSG knocked Liverpool out last season on penalties on their way to lifting the trophy, and they arrive in strong form again after dismantling Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the last round. With the likes of Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Barcola, they look like a side peaking at the right time.
Liverpool, meanwhile, showed their quality in flashes against Galatasaray, but inconsistency has been the story of their season. They can be electric going forward, but defensively vulnerable against elite opposition.
If PSG hit their level over two legs, they should have enough.
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich – European Royalty
This is the tie of the round.
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich is one of the most iconic fixtures in Champions League history, and once again it delivers huge stakes. Madrid come into this off the back of a dominant win over Manchester City, with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr as dangerous as ever.
Bayern, however, have been relentless. A 10-2 demolition of Atalanta underlines their attacking firepower, with Harry Kane leading a stacked frontline that includes Luis Diaz and Michael Olise.
Logic might point towards Bayern’s form, but this is Real Madrid in the Champions League. That alone changes everything.
Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid – Goals vs Grit
Barcelona have been one of the most entertaining teams in Europe this season.
Over 120 goals across all competitions tells its own story, with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski leading a relentless attack. They brushed aside Newcastle in the last round and will back themselves at home.
Atletico Madrid, though, bring chaos in their own way. Diego Simeone’s side have already beaten Barcelona heavily this season and edged past Tottenham in a high-scoring tie. They may not control games, but they know how to survive them.
This could be one of the most open ties of the round.

Sporting CP vs Arsenal – Opportunity Knocks
On paper, this is the most favourable draw.
Arsenal have been one of the most consistent teams in Europe this season, grinding out results and showing maturity in big moments. They saw off Bayer Leverkusen with control and now face a Sporting side that needed a remarkable comeback to eliminate Bodo/Glimt.
Sporting have attacking threats, but they are also missing key players and lack Arsenal’s experience at this level.
If the Gunners avoid defeat in Lisbon, they will be confident of finishing the job at home.
The Route to the Final
The bracket only adds to the drama.
The winners of PSG vs Liverpool will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, meaning one side will have to navigate two elite-level ties just to reach the final.
On the other side, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid will meet Arsenal or Sporting, offering a slightly more open path to Budapest.
It sets up a fascinating contrast. One half stacked with European giants, the other offering a real opportunity for a new finalist to emerge.
