The English Premier League has seen some of the closest battles between teams fighting for the same finish this season, from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City’s battle at the top of the table down to the relegation battle that has seen up to six clubs fighting for survival throughout the campaign.
The same goes for this season’s Golden Boot race, with five players currently within four goals of each other with just three games until the Premier League comes to a close. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at the top five contenders for this year’s Golden Boot:

Erling Haaland – 21 goals
Unsurprisingly Erling Haaland once again leads the Premier League scoring table with 21 goals from his 27 games played, the second least number of appearances of anyone in this top five.
Despite his goalscoring numbers seeing a large decrease from his incredible first year in the division, Haaland’s 21 goals this time around is still a fantastic tally going into the final three games of the season.
The Norwegian had struggled in previous weeks compared to his unbelievably high standards, but three goals in his last three Premier League games puts the striker right back in form and we can see him continuing this scoring form and going on to win the Golden Boot for the second time in as many seasons.
Cole Palmer – 20 goals
Cole Palmer’s inclusion in this list is one that not even the most hardcore Chelsea fan would have predicted at the beginning of the year, with the forward making his move from Manchester City that saw many criticise the large fee Chelsea paid out.
That fee was certainly worth it though, with Palmer scoring 31% of his side’s goals in the league this season while also assisting a further nine.
Palmer has set multiple records with his goals throughout this season including the fastest ever “perfect hat-trick” after he scored with his left, right and head after just 29 minutes against Everton. His goals in this game also helped him become the first player to ever score in seven-straight games for Chelsea, while also being the first player to score over 20 goals in all competitions for the Blues since Eden Hazard in 2018/19.
10 goals in his last five league games has Palmer in incredible form heading into the final games of the season, and we believe the forward will certainly run Haaland close at the top of the scoring charts.
Ollie Watkins – 19 goals
A common theme in this list is players enjoying their best-ever seasons, and the same goes here for Ollie Watkins, whose 19 goals so far is already four more than his previous best tally of 15, which came last season.
Watkins has been one of the main driving forces in Aston Villa’s incredible rise up the league that has them now fighting with Tottenham Hotspur for fourth spot, earning them a place in next year’s Champions League.
Not only is the striker firmly in the Golden Boot race but Watkins also leads the way for assists with 12 in 34 games, two more than the next closest player.
Watkins has failed to score in any of his last three matches, but we expect the striker to get back into goalscoring form as he looks to finish as both top scorer an top assister this season.
Alexander Isak – 19 goals
Alexander Isak’s 23 goals in all competitions this year is the first time the Swedish striker has ever reached the 20-goal mark in his career, with his second-highest tally being 17 for Real Sociedad in 2020/21.
19 goals in just 26 games has Isak as the most clinical striker in this list, scoring a goal every 103 minutes and holding a fantastic goal conversion rate of 36%.
Isak is one of the most in-form players in the league heading into the final weeks of the season, scoring nine goals in his last eight appearances in the league, including two in Newcastle United’s 5-1 victory over Sheffield United last time out.
This form is almost certain to see the striker hit 20 league goals for the first time in his career, and potentially move him close to winning his first-ever Golden Boot.
Dominic Solanke – 18 goals
Dominic Solanke makes up the final name on this list and similarly to others mentioned, this is by far the striker’s best individual season.
Solanke has previously proven his talent in the Championship, scoring 29 goals for Bournemouth when they were promoted in the 2021/22 season, but he had failed up until this point to ever prove himself in the top division. Last season’s six goals in the Premier League was Solanke’s highest in England’s top division, leaving his record of 18 this time around as simply outstanding.
His goals have already helped Bournemouth to secure their best-ever points tally in a Premier League season, and his side are currently on track to record just their second finish in the top half of the division.
While Solanke may not be the favourite to go on and win the Golden Boot, four goals in his last eight has him in good enough form to push those above him down to the wire.
