The 2024-25 season has kicked off in recent weeks, and with it there has been a whole host of football from a variety of football taking place. This week hosts the first round of the EFL Cup with matches split across Tuesday and Wednesday.
In addition to the EFL Cup, the UEFA Super Cup is set to take place on Wednesday evening, pitting the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid, up against the Europa League winners, Atalanta, to determine the best European side.
In this article, we’re going to take a look at a selection of EFL Cup games, alongside the UEFA Super Cup, and pick out our top tips and booking code:
Real Madrid vs Atalanta
Real Madrid booked their place in the Super Cup after lifting their record-extending 15th Champions League title, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 despite the German side having plenty of chances to win the game. That was one of three trophies Real Madrid lifted last season, adding the La Liga and Spanish Super Cup to their trophy haul.
Ahead of the new campaign they have signed the French superstar Kylian Mbappe, adding to an already stacked attack consisting of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, Endrick, Arda Guler and many more.
While Atalanta impressed in a 3-0 victory against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final, the defeat in the final being the only loss the German side suffered all campaign, they are heading into this one as the major underdogs.
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman showed his immense quality in that Europa League final, becoming the first man to score a hat-trick in a Europa League Final, but the Nigerian may not have the same impact against the brilliant Los Blancos.
With the attacking depth that Real Madrid boast, as well as quality in every other area of the pitch, we believe the Spanish giants will win this one fairly comfortably.

Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday
Hull City come into this game hoping to progress past the first round of the EFL Cup for the first time in four seasons, falling to defeat in each of their last three attempts.
The Tigers were unable to open the season with a victory against Bristol City, but they will be delighted to have taken a point after going behind six minutes from time to a Fally Mayulu goal, only for Hull City to win a penalty in injury time that was converted by Oscar Estupinan.
Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, had a fantastic opening victory in the EFL Championship, battering Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle 4-0, scoring twice in the final minutes to add to a brilliant outing.
Both sides are expected to make plenty of changes to their teams here, and we believe that Sheffield Wednesday have much more quality throughout their squad, suggesting they will win here.

Leeds United vs Middlesbrough
Leeds United were one of the favourites to be promoted into the Premier League last season, tipped alongside Leicester City as one of the best teams in the league. However, Leeds finished behind Ipswich Town and Leicester City to place in the playoff positions, where they were eventually defeated 1-0 by Southampton in the final.
Leeds will once again be looking to earn promotion back into the Premier League this season, but they failed to get off to the ideal start as they were held to a draw in a thrilling encounter with newly-promoted Portsmouth that ended 3-3, scoring a 95th-minute equaliser after going behind in the closing minutes.
Middlesbrough should also be looking for a place in the play-off positions this season after narrowly missing out last year, finishing four points behind Norwich City in sixth. Michael Carrick’s side kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win against Swansea, but we expect them to make plenty of changes here.
With that, we believe Leeds have the better quality in depth throughout their squad, and we believe the hosts will win this one in a tight encounter.
