How Have The New Nigerian Summer Signings Been Performing This Season

A plethora of Nigerian talents made exciting moves across Europe during the summer transfer window, giving them a fresh opportunity to showcase their quality on new stages.

From promising youngsters eager to prove themselves in top-flight football to established internationals seeking new challenges, these signings have added to the growing influence of Super Eagles stars across the continent.

With the season now in full swing, it is time to take a look at how those Nigerian stars who secured summer transfers are performing for their new clubs:

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Osimhen was on loan at Galatasaray during 2024/25 and enjoyed a stunning season, recording 37 goals and registering seven assists in 39 appearances, earning him the permanent move to the Turkish side.

The striker picked up where he left off in his first matches of the new campaign, netting two goals in his first three appearances, but Osimhen went on to miss the subsequent three matches due to injury, finally returning with a 12-minute cameo against Alanyaspor on matchday seven of the Turkish Super Lig season. He then started in the 1-1 draw with Besiktas this past Saturday.

Osimhen and Galatasaray fans will be hoping the striker avoids any further injury issues this term, having been plagued by fitness issues throughout his career, especially given his impressive start to the campaign.

Victor Boniface (Werder Bremen)

Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan on deadline day of the summer transfer window, and despite registering an assist on his debut against Borussia Monchengladbach, the forward has struggled to make the desired impact for his new club.

Boniface has yet to start a match for Werder Bremen, playing just 83 minutes across four substitute appearances, with his recent cameos against Freiburg and Bayern Munich particularly underwhelming.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Another forward who earned a move during the summer window, Arokodare swapped the Belgium Pro League for the English Premier League as he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Genk.

The striker is still waiting for his first Premier League goal for the Old Gold, having failed to find the net in his first matches against Newcastle United, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur, but Arokodare did net his first Wolves goal in their 2-0 win over Everton in the EFL Cup third round.

Arokodare beautifully chipped goalkeeper Mark Travers in the 87th-minute to make it 2-0 to Wolves and seal the victory, leaving fans excited to see what else the talented striker can produce in the coming weeks after that brilliant finish.

Christantus Uche (Crystal Palace)

Uche joined Crystal Palace from Getafe during the summer transfer window, and the forward has impressed despite playing limited minutes in his first weeks for Oliver Glasner’s Eagles.

Uche has found it difficult to break into the starting 11, expectedly so given Crystal Palace’s remarkable form in recent months, but the forward has shown glimpses of his talent in his limited minutes for the club.

Uche was particularly impressive in the EFL Cup victory over Millwall, with the forward registering one key pass and two successful dribbles in just 45 minutes of action.

Moses Simon (Paris FC)

Simon swapped Nantes for Paris FC during the summer transfer window, and the experienced Ligue 1 star has already been a standout performer on multiple occasions for his new club.

Simon scored his first goal in just his second appearance for Paris FC, though it proved to be just a consolation as they lost 5-2 to Marseille, and followed that by quickly netting his second in their 3-2 win over Metz the following week, while Simon also secured an assist in that victory.

Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)

Chukwueze is yet another Super Eagles star that secured a move to the English Premier League during the summer transfer window, joining Fulham on loan from AC Milan.

After a challenging two years for AC Milan, Chukwueze will be hoping to fulfil the promise that he showed earlier in his career during his time at Fulham, but the attacker has struggled in his three two appearances for the Cottagers.

Chukwueze failed to have the desired impact in his 30-minute substitute appearance against Cambridge United in the EFL Cup, and while he was slightly improved against Aston Villa, including completing two dribbles in just 10 minutes, Fulham fans will be hoping for much more in his next performances.
