Tottenham Hotspur endured a wildly inconsistent 2024/25 season, suffering a disastrous English Premier League campaign that saw them unacceptably finish 17th with just 38 points and a record 22 defeats – the most in the league’s history for a team that avoided relegation – yet they remarkably ended their 17-year trophy drought by brilliantly winning the UEFA Europa League.
Spurs have since sacked Ange Postecoglou and hired former Brentford boss Thomas Frank to lead them into the new campaign, and while a handful of transfers have already been confirmed, several more are expected as the new boss aims to shape his squad ahead of their league opener against Burnley.
Here’s how Tottenham Hotspur could line-up in their first game of the 2025/26 EPL season.
Potential Line-Up For 2025/26 Season Opener
GK – Guglielmo Vicario
Vicario did have a slightly shaky 2024/25 campaign, with a disappointing save percentage of just 64.8% per 90 minutes – ranking in the bottom 31% of Premier League goalkeepers – but the Italian does rank among the top seven % for pass accuracy and has shown signs of being a top-level goalkeeper, meaning he is likely to start as the number one next term.
RB – Pedro Porro
- Porro is one of the best full-backs in the league, especially excelling in attacking areas as he ranks among the top players in his position for assists, accurate long balls, chances created and successful crosses per 90, and the Spaniard could thrive under Frank.
CB – Cristian Romero
- Romero is an extremely adept defender that is also very capable on the ball, and if the Argentinian does stay at Spurs – with rumours of a potential departure – then the central defender could be vital to Frank’s style of play.
CB – Micky van de Ven
- Van de Ven is certain to be Tottenham’s other central defender, as he excels on the ball thanks to his experience of playing at left-back, while his pace and long legs make him a formidable defender.
LB – Destiny Udogie
- In a similar vein to Porro, Udogie is one of the best attacking full-backs in the league, largely thanks to his fantastic athletic ability, driving runs and accurate crossing ability, while he has also shown signs of being a superb one-vs-one defender.
CM – Rodrigo Bentancur
- Bentancur could be pivotal to Frank’s system, as the Uruguayan’s ability to pick the ball up from the defence, turn and quickly push the ball to the attackers is something that Bentancur excels at and Frank often tasks his midfielders with doing.
CM – Lucas Bergvall
- Bergvall is extremely similar in that sense, with a phenomenal ability to pick the ball up and drive up the pitch through either line-splitting passes or driving dribbles – exceptional abilities to have at just 19-years-old.
RW – Mohammed Kudus
- Kudus has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, and the winger could play a similar role as Brentford’s Kevin Schade or Bryan Mbeumo if he makes the move to Spurs, with the ability to go down the outside and deliver a cross or play more centrally and become a goal threat.
CAM – Dejan Kulusevski
- Kulusevski offers many of the same abilities that Mikkel Damsgaard provided to Frank’s Brentford team last season, with the ability to glide past players, be a creative force through their precise passing and also often be the trigger for their defensive press.
LW – Mathys Tel
- While Kudus is more of a creative winger, Tel provides more of a similar goal threat to that of Mbeumo, and having made his loan move from Bayern Munich permanent, the 20-year-old is expected to start next season.
ST – Dominic Solanke
- Solanke scored 16 goals in 45 appearances for Tottenham in his debut campaign, and the powerful striker will be hoping to improve on those statistics next season, and given how Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins and many more have thrived under Frank, Solanke could have a huge season for Spurs.

Are you ready to go 1Up?! ?
Due to Romero being consistently linked with a move away from the club, Spurs have reportedly been scouting players for a potential central defender signing if the need arises.
Further up the pitch, a defensive midfielder could be acquired in order to come into the starting 11 and give Bergvall less responsibility as such a young age, and the potential departure of Yves Bissouma would make room for such an addition. The Morgan Gibbs-White saga rolls on and it remains to be seen if a deal can get over the line for the Nottingham Forest star.
