Matchday 33 of the English Premier League has had a potentially huge impact on the ongoing title race between the top three. Headed into the weekend, Arsenal were top of the league on 71 points, Liverpool were behind only on goal difference, and Manchester City were trailing by a point with 70.
All three teams were huge favourites to win their games as all were set to play at their home stadiums, and Manchester City showed why they were favourites as they battered Luton Town 5-1 on Saturday, pushing them to the top of the table.
Liverpool and Arsenal were set to follow on Sunday, with Liverpool hosting Crystal Palace at Anfield. An early goal from Eberechi Eze saw Palace take the lead and Liverpool were never able to get back into the game, seeing them remain two points behind Manchester City.
Arsenal then had the toughest fixture of the lot as they faced up against Aston Villa, where they dominated the game up until two late goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins saw Villa take an incredible 2-0 victory, leaving Manchester City at the top of the league.
Latest Odds & upcoming fixtures
The odds of who will win the Premier League have now seen a large shift in favour of the Citizens, having them at 1.40 odds to win the competition with Bet9ja, while Arsenal’s odds have dropped to 5.00 and Liverpool’s to 6.75.
This is not only because of City now leading the title race, but also due to the difficulty of remaining fixtures that the three sides have.
In Manchester City’s last six games, they are only set to face three teams within the top 10 of the league, facing up against Brighton, who they have not lost to since 2021, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season.
In comparison, Arsenal will have to face three rivals before the end of the campaign, leaving the stakes much higher in each of these games. They are set to host Chelsea at the Emirates, Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the North-London derby, before making a massive trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, where they have won just once in the last 16 Premier League meetings.
Liverpool similarly play one of their rivals in a highly important clash with Everton at Goodison Park in what could be a crucial moment in both the relegation battle and title fight. They will then travel to London to face West Ham United before hosting Tottenham at Anfield and then making the journey to Villa Park to face Aston Villa, who will be in their own battle to finalise their spot in the top four.
These matches certainly see Manchester City have the easier run-in, and with their experience of winning Premier League’s in recent seasons, we don’t see them dropping away from the top spot that they earned this past weekend.
