Man Utd’s Top 10 Biggest Ever Transfer Signings

Manchester United have consistently been among the biggest spenders in the transfer market. They rank third in world football for the most money spent over the last 10 years.

With Red Devils spending not looking as though it’ll slow down anytime soon, here we look at their 10 most expensive transfers of all time.

10. Bruno Fernandes – £55m (From Sporting, 2020)

Bruno joined United in the 2019/2020 January transfer window and made an immediate impact. He was nominated for PFA and Premier League player of the year in his first full season.

9. Leny Yoro – £59m (From Lille, 2024)

The Red Devils signed the youngster in the summer and beat the likes of Real Madrid to his signature. It remains to be seen how great of a career he will have for the Manchester side.

8. Casemiro – £60m (From Real Madrid, 2022)

Casemiro joined United after winning 18 trophies in 336 matches for Real Madrid. He has also won two trophies for the Red Devils by lifting the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

7. Ángel Di María – £63m (From Real Madrid, 2014)

There was a lot of expectation for Di Maria to be a superstar in Manchester, especially after he decided to wear the famous No. 7 shirt. However, he would prematurely depart the club following a difficult season at Old Trafford.

6. Rasmus Hojlund – £63m (From Atalanta, 2023)

The cash was splashed on Hojlund, with Atalanta getting a 400% profit on him following a Serie A season where he scored nine goals. The success of the Dane’s career at the club is still yet to be decided.

5. Romelu Lukaku – £71m (From Everton, 2017)

Lukaku joined for a blockbuster fee after four dominant seasons as Everton’s starting striker. The Belgian would score 28 Premier League goals across two campaigns before departing for Inter Milan in 2019.

4. Jadon Sancho – £72m (From Borussia Dortmund, 2021)

Sancho struggled during his first two seasons at United before he was left out of the squad by Erik Ten Hag in 2023. The Englishman signed for Chelsea in the summer window in an initial loan move with an obligation to buy at the end of this season.

3. Harry Maguire – £73m (From Leicester City, 2019)

Maguire became the world’s most expensive defender when he signed for United. He has since gone on to have an inconsistent career with the club

2. Antony – £80m (From Ajax, 2022)

Antony signed for the club on transfer deadline day in 2022. His career has been nothing short of a disaster at Old Trafford, as he has failed to justify his expensive price tag.

1. Paul Pogba – £88m (From Juventus, 2016)

Pogba became the world’s most expensive player when he joined in the summer of 2016. He was another player that failed to live up to his enormous price tag, as he would eventually rejoin Juventus in 2022 for a free transfer.
