A new Premier League season is here – and the big question is whether anyone can stop Liverpool from defending their crown. We’ve made our calls for the top six, the bottom three, and picked out who will surprise, who will disappoint, and who will take the individual honours.
Title Winners – Liverpool
The champions have reloaded. Arne Slot’s first season brought a dominant title win, and the summer transfer business has been ruthless. Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike add depth and quality across the pitch, and there could still be a late move for Alexander Isak. Losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid was a blow, but Liverpool look stronger overall and will be favourites to go back-to-back.
Back the champions to lift the title again at 2.70
2nd – Arsenal
Three consecutive runner-up finishes show Arsenal are consistent contenders – but also how hard it is to get over the line. Mikel Arteta finally has the striker he’s been crying out for in Viktor Gyokeres, while Martin Zubimendi adds control in midfield. Bukayo Saka’s fitness will be key, and there’s excitement around youngsters Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and 15-year-old Max Dowman. They’ll push Liverpool again, but may just fall short.
Believe this is finally their year? Take them at 3.25
3rd – Manchester City
Last season’s slip was largely down to Rodri’s injury, but Pep Guardiola’s squad refresh means this could be a different-looking City side. Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and James Trafford all strengthen the depth. Expect goals – possibly in record numbers – but defensive vulnerability and the lingering Premier League charges could be distractions.
Fancy Pep’s side to reclaim their crown? Back them at 4.40
4th – Chelsea
Club World Cup winners and Conference League holders, Chelsea are building something under Enzo Maresca. The signings of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro should add more bite in attack, while Cole Palmer remains central to their creativity. They’re not quite ready to fight for the title, but the squad depth makes a top-four finish realistic.
Think the Club World Cup winners can go all the way? Get them at 8.75

5th – Newcastle United
A frustrating summer in the market hasn’t dampened Eddie Howe’s ability to maximise this squad. Alexander Isak’s future remains uncertain, but Newcastle’s underlying numbers over the last three seasons back them to remain a top-six-calibre side. A Champions League run could stretch resources, but they should hold their own domestically.
6th – Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has been backed with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to fix United’s blunt attack. There’s still work to do in midfield and defence, but free midweeks should allow Amorim to implement his ideas. Progress is expected, though they’re still short of challenging the top three.
Relegated Teams
18th – Brentford
Losing Thomas Frank, captain Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo – with Yoane Wissa potentially next – has gutted the Bees’ spine. New boss Keith Andrews is untested at this level, and without smart late recruitment, this could be a tough campaign.
19th – Leeds United
Back in the Premier League after two years away, but boss Daniel Farke has admitted his squad “aren’t ready” for the demands of the season. A slow start could be costly, and while they’ll battle, the step up may prove too steep.
20th – Burnley
Promotion was built on defensive solidity, but losing goalkeeper James Trafford is a major setback. Scott Parker’s pragmatic approach may keep games tight, but goals will be hard to come by, and survival could be out of reach.

Surprise Package – Manchester United
After a dire 2024/25, expectations are low, but Amorim having a full pre-season, coupled with a retooled attack, could see United exceed most predictions and return to European football.
Biggest Disappointment – Aston Villa
A Europa League campaign will stretch the squad, and after narrowly missing out on the top four last season, they could slip back towards mid-table.
Top Goalscorer – Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Last season’s injury layoff allowed Mo Salah to top the charts, but a fit Haaland, with new creative options around him, should reclaim the Golden Boot.
Player of the Year – Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)
Liverpool’s record signing is expected to slot straight into Arne Slot’s system, linking midfield and attack. If Liverpool defend their title, Wirtz will be central to it.
Young Player of the Year – Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal)
The 17-year-old has the trust of Arteta and the talent to influence big games. Expect a breakout season that makes him a senior England contender.
