THE BEST INTERNATIONAL GOALS THIS WEEKEND

From jaw-dropping strikes to late winners, this weekend’s international fixtures have delivered some phenomenal goals. As national teams clashed in pivotal qualifiers and high-stakes friendlies, football fans were treated to a showcase of individual brilliance and teamwork. In this article, we are going to pick out five of the best to have been scored since Friday:

Konstantin Tyukavin

Belarus vs Russia – 0-4

20th minute

Tyukavin’s goal came off the back of a swift counterattack from the Russians, powering out of their half and finding themselves in a two-versus-two situation.

Ivan Oblyakov was played into space and unleashed a first-time pass into the path of the onrushing Tyukavin who was now in the box. He looked like he was about to shoot first time but an incredible dummy put the keeper on the floor before delicately dinking into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Pascal Gross

Germany vs Greece – 2-1

89th minute

Germany were heading into the final minutes of this game with the scores all level after a disappointing performance against Greece, but then the Brighton midfielder stepped up with an outstanding strike to take the victory.

The ball was crossed into the box by Kai Havertz but was easily cleared to the edge of the box by a Greek defender, where Gross walked onto the bouncing ball and sliced across it, sending the ball spinning into the top right corner to make for a dramatic victory.

Pedri

Spain vs Northern Ireland – 5-1

12th minute

Spain were already 1-0 down after just two minutes, but it did not take long for them to equalise thanks to a stunning strike from Pedri.

Nacho Fernandez fed the ball through the lines to the midfield sensation, who turned and drove forward into the space before letting fly from distance. The strike was low and hard and curled away from the keeper into the bottom left corner, putting Spain straight back into the game and kicking off their 5-1 win.

Erling Haaland

Denmark vs Norway – 3-1

72nd minute

This goal came all thanks to the brilliance of Norway’s dynamic duo – Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland.

Odegaard had control of the ball just inside Denmark’s half with all 11 opposition players in front of him, but the midfielder did not care as he curled a beautiful pass through the tightest of gaps and onto Haaland, who took it past the keeper and slotted home.

While the finish was not anything out of this world, the pass was one that even some of the very best players would have failed to see, let alone execute perfectly.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Nigeria vs South Africa – 1-1

46th minute

Nigeria’s equaliser all started with a lovely pass with the outside of the boot from Alex Iwobi to Paul Onuachu, who held up the ball brilliantly before laying it back to the midfielder.

Iwobi quickly shifted the ball to his left foot and played a pass into Dele-Bashiru just outside of the box, with Dele-Bashiru holding off his defender before quickly pivoting onto his right foot and smashing a hard effort across goal and crashing into the net.

The goal was not only a fantastic way to get back into the game, but it showed Dele-Bashiru’s immense talent to the Super Eagles fans who may not have seen him in action outside of his two Nigeria appearances.
