The top performing English Premier League clubs from last season are set to enter the EFL Cup this week, as the third round takes place.
There are set to be multiple exciting fixtures, with some Premier League teams already facing up against one another at this early stage.
Some of the standout fixtures include Chelsea facing Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United hosting Manchester City at St James’ Park.

Manchester United have had a tough start to the season so far, but one shining light in recent games has been summer signing Rasmus Hojlund. The Danishman has impressed with his overall play and scored his first goal for his new side in the UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich last week. Despite having just one official goal, Hojlund has shown he knows where the net is for United as he had a goal controversially disallowed against Brighton in his first start for the club.

Chelsea and Brighton have had two very contrasting starts to their season’s so far. Chelsea have struggled to get going so far this season, recording just two wins against Luton Town and AFC Wimbledon. In contrast, Brighton have started in fantastic form as they’ve won five of their opening seven games this season.
For these reasons, we believe Brighton will run out victorious in this game.
Aston Villa to win, 1.70
This will be the second time Aston Villa and Everton have played each other this season, after they faced each other on matchday two of the Premier League. Aston Villa were extremely dominant in that game, as they put up 3.00xG compared to Everton’s 0.63xG and ran out 4-0 winners.
We can see a repeat of this happening on Wednesday, so we’re backing Aston Villa to win this one.
Arsenal to win, 2.04
Brentford come into this game on the back of two defeats, including a disappointing 3-1 loss in their most recent game as they gave Everton their first win of the season. In comparison, Arsenal come into the game having won six of their last eight games in all competitions. Having also scored six goals in their last two games, Arsenal are certainly in goalscoring form.
Manchester City to win, 2.50
Newcastle United vs Manchester City
Manchester City have been on fire so far this season, scoring 20 goals and conceding just five as they’ve won all of their last eight games since their loss on penalties to Arsenal in the Community Shield. Newcastle will also be coming into the game with lots of confidence though, as they hammered Sheffield United 8-0 in their most recent Premier League game.
However, we believe Manchester City will still have too much for this Newcastle side to handle and so we’re backing Manchester City to get the win.
